Men's Basketball kept it rolling with a 97-88 win over UNOH

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Basketball looked to keep it going against Northwestern Ohio and they did so with a 97-88 victory. The fast-paced game resulted in the Golden Eagles shooting 55.9% from the floor behind Blake Stewarts career day of 33 points and 10 rebounds. Andy Mora was also a key part in the victory as he scored a career high 22 points off the bench. Men's Basketballs moves to 12-7 (8-3) on the year as they will take on fellow WHAC team down the road in Aquinas on Wednesday, January 22 starting at 8 p.m.
 
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 97 UNOH - 88
 
First Half: Cornerstone – 46 UNOH – 40
  • It was a great start for the Golden Eagles as Mason Brooks hits a three and Blake Stewart followed with a jumper to make it 5-0. UNOH would instantly respond with a 4-0 run to make it 5-4.
  • Mason Brooks would hit his second three and Luke Rowlinson found an easy layup to give the Golden Eagles their second 5-0 run of the game to make it 10-4.
  • UNOH would use the next three minutes of the first half to go on a 10-2 run to take a 14-12 lead over the Golden Eagles.
  • Andy Mora would make an immediate impact off the bench for the Golden Eagles as he scored five straight points to help Cornerstone retake a 17-14 lead.
  • Cornerstone continued to find small runs through the first 10-minutes of the first half as this 7-2 run highlighted by an Andy Mora three-point play, made it a 26-22 Golden Eagle lead.
  • A Kayden Bird three gave the Golden Eagles some breathing room with five minutes remaining in the first half as it is 38-30.
  • A 7-2 UNOH run cut Cornerstone's lead 40-37 as the game continued to be played at a high pace.
  • Blake Stewart would score the final basket for the Golden Eagles in the first half as Cornerstone leads 46-40.
  • Both teams shot 48% from the floor in the first half of action as Blake Stewart leads all scorers with 15.
 
Second Half: Cornerstone – 97 UNOH – 88
  • The first three minutes of the second half was just like the first half of basketball as both teams went back-and-forth with the Golden Eagles up 50-47.
  • Back-to-back Toby Woolock layups calmed the Racer momentum as the Golden Eagles lead 56-50.
  • A big 9-0 run by the Golden Eagles saw them take their largest lead of the game, 68-56 after Mason Brooks nailed a corner three.
  • Andy Mora continued to have a huge game as he has scored Cornerstone's last seven points to help them maintain a 78-65 advantage.
  • Blake Stewart and Andy Mora cannot be stopped as they have combined to score the last 15 Golden Eagle points as they lead late 93-81 over the Racers.
  • Blake Stewart finished what he started as his tip in layup was the dagger in the hearts of the Racers as the Golden Eagles would go on to win 97-88.
