Women's Basketball dominates UM-Dearborn 93-52

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Women's Basketball looked to get back in track with a matchup against Michigan-Dearborn and did so with a big 93-52 victory. It was all Cornerstone early and often in this game as five different Golden Eagles scored in double-figures. The defense of Cornerstone held the Wolverines to just 27.4% shooting from the floor in the blowout victory. The victory ended women's basketballs four game losing streak as they move to 9-12 (8-5) on the year as they will hit the road to face off against Rochester Christian on Wednesday, January 29.

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 93 UM-Dearborn - 52

First Quarter – Cornerstone – 23 UM-Dearborn - 7
  • It was a quick start for the Golden Eagles to open the game as Jaxi Long would complete the three-point play to make it 7-2 Cornerstone.
  • Through the first five minutes of the first quarter, it continued to be the Golden Eagles ahead of the Wolverines 9-6.
  • The defense of the Golden Eagles ramped up as a turnover led to another Golden Eagles basket as they now lead 17-6 over the Wolverines.
  • Stephanie Ainsworth passed to Emma Costen for the easy layup as Cornerstone continued to extend their lead 21-7.
  • Cornerstone scored one more basket before the buzzer thanks to Stephanie Ainsworth as the Golden Eagles lead 23-7.
Second Quarter – Cornerstone – 49 UM-Dearborn - 23
  • Abi Bandstra and Laura Innerebner got the offense started in the second quarter with layups to make it a 27-10 Cornerstone lead.
  • It continued to be all Cornerstone in the second as Olivia Kubik would drain a wing three to make it 35-12 with 6:22 left in the second quarter.
  • Stephanie Ainsworth continued to go to work down low as her back-to-back layups made it a 39-12 game.
  • Abby Hall got into the action with a corner three as Cornerstone leads big in the second 47-17 with 1:50 left in the half.
  • Cornerstone heads into halftime with a big 49-23 lead over the Wolverines. The Golden Eagles have held UM-Dearborn to 25% from the floor and 0-8 from three
Third Quarter – Cornerstone – 69 UM-Dearborn - 40
  • First points for Dearborn comes off an offensive rebound that lead into a wing three, but Cornerstone still leads 52-28.
  • It continued to rain threes for the Wolverines as two more made it 52-34 as Jaxi Long would answer with a three of her own to make it 55-34.
  • Maddie Schuur and Olivia Kubik would make back-to-back jumpers for the Golden Eagles as they continued to lead big in the third 64-38.
  • The Golden Eagles head into the final quarter of the game with a 69-40 lead over the Wolverines.
Fourth Quarter – Cornerstone – 93 UM-Dearborn-52
  • The Golden Eagles opened on a quick 5-0 run to start the fourth as Jaylee Long's three forced UM-Dearborn into a timeout.
  • Julie Ashbaugh would make back-to-back layups for the Golden Eagles as Cornerstone leads 80-40 early in the fourth.
  • Lily Helmuth drained a corner three for Cornerstone to make it an 84-44 game as Julie Ashbaugh would follow with a fast break layup.
  • Julie Ashbaugh and Abby Hall would put the final touches on the game with a layup as the Golden Eagles win big UM-Dearborn 93-52.
