ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Women's Basketball traveled to Rochester Christian for a normal conference matchup but played in everything but a normal game as they won in double overtime 81-78. After finding themselves up 19 in the third quarter at one point, Rochester Christians stormed back to tie it on a late fourth quarter three to force overtime. The Golden Eagles would eventually win it in double overtime behind
Mackenzie Goodwin's 18 points and
Jaxi Long's 17 points. Women's Basketball returns home to face off against Madonna as they honor their five seniors for senior night on Saturday, February 1 starting at 1 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 81 Rochester Christian - 78
First Quarter – Rochester Christian – 11 Cornerstone – 9
- Rochester Christian opened the first quarter on quick 5-2 run before Mackenzie Goodwin made a layup to make it 5-4 after the first three minutes.
- With three minutes to go in the first quarter, the Warriors lead the Golden Eagles 9-6 as both teams defenses have disrupted the other sides offense.
- The Golden Eagles continued to struggle to score on offense as Rochester Christian holds an 11-7 lead over Cornerstone.
- Mackenzie Goodwin ends the Golden Eagle drought with a layup as Cornerstone trails 11-9 after the first quarter.
Second Quarter – Cornerstone – 32 Rochester Christian – 20
- After a quick Rochester Christian jumper, the Golden Eagles would go on a 13-0 run to take a 22-13 lead over Rochester Christian thanks to threes from Olivia Kubik, Jaxi Long, and Jaylee Long.
- The offense continued score as a 6-0 run this time saw the Golden Eagles take a 28-17 advantage with just under four minutes to go in the second.
- Both the Golden Eagles and Warriors have slowed on offense as Stephanie Ainsworth would make a layup right before the buzzer as Cornerstone leads 32-20 at halftime.
- Cornerstone outscored Rochester Christian 23-9 in the second quarter.
Third Quarter – Cornerstone – 51 Rochester Christian – 40
- Cornerstone and Rochester Christian opened the third quarter with easy baskets as the Golden Eagles remain in the lead 38-25.
- Layups from Mackenzie Goodwin and Emma Costen made it a 42-26 Golden Eagle advantage.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone in the third quarter as free throws from Olivia Kubik made it a 48-29 game as the Golden Eagles have found their largest lead of the game.
- Rochester Christian has started to gain momentum on the offensive end as an 11-0 run forced Cornerstone into a timeout as they lead 48-40 with 1:30 left in the third quarter.
- Cornerstone would head into the final quarter of the game with a 51-40 advantage over Rochester Christian.
Fourth Quarter – Cornerstone – 60 Rochester Christian – 60
- Rochester Christian opened the fourth quarter on a 6-1 run as they have cut into the Golden Eagle lead 52-46.
- The Warriors made it a one-point game with 5:24 left as Emma Costen would then make it a three-point game thanks to a pair of free throws.
- The Golden Eagles continued to struggle to score in the fourth as Rochester Christian made it one point game once again as three minutes remain in the final quarter.
- Jaxi Long puts an end to the eight-minute field goal drought with a jumper as the Golden Eagles hold onto a 58-55 lead with 1:30 left.
- Olivia Kubik and Jaxi Long would both split a pair of free throws as Rochester Christian has the ball with 10 seconds left on the clock, down 60-57.
- The Warriors would drill a three with five second left to tie the game at 60 as the Golden Eagles have one last shot to win it.
- The jumper falls short for the Golden Eagles as the game heads in overtime tied at 60 a piece.
1st OT – Cornerstone – 71 Rochester Christian – 71
- The Golden Eagles opened overtime on a 6-2 run thanks to two layups from Mackenzie Goodwin and one from Jaxi Long to take a 66-62 advantage.
- The Warriors wouldn't back down as they would tie the game at 67 after a layup as 2:17 remains.
- Laura Innerebner would make a layup and Mackenzie Goodwin would make a pair of free throws as the Golden Eagles lead 71-69 with a minute left.
- Rochester Christian would make a pair of free throws with 43 seconds left in overtime to tie the game back up at 71.
- Both teams could not score in the final 40 seconds as the final shot from the Golden Eagles missed off target as the game heads in double overtime tied at 71.
2nd OT – Cornerstone – 81 Rochester Christian – 78
- The game remained tied through the first two minutes of double overtime, 75-75.
- Olivia Kubik and Jaxi Long would make back-to-back layups for the Golden Eagles to take a 79-75 advantage over the Warriors.
- Olivia Kubik would make a pair of free throws to make it an 81-78 advantage with 50 seconds left.
- The Golden Eagles defense continued to come up clutch down the stretch as they forced a stop with a chance to extend their lead.
- The Warriors had another chance to tie the game at the buzzer with a three but a deflection from Emma Costen sealed the game for the Golden Eagles as they sneak away with an 81-78 victory over Rochester Christian.
