Men’s Basketball sweeps Rochester Christian with a 94-81 victory

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Basketball kept on rolling this evening as they completed the season sweep against the Warriors of Rochester Christian. The Golden Eagles tallied their sixth consecutive victory as they were led by Luke Rowlinson that posted 26 points in the win. Blake Stewart also highlighted in the contest with a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds). Mason Brooks chipped in 21 points and Connor Dykema was right behind him with 16 points of his own. This was a true team effort on the road as the boys continue to grow momentum as they near closer to the post season. Cornerstone prepares to next take on Madonna in Mol Arena on Saturday, February 1st at 3:00 p.m. 
 
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 94 Rochester Christian – 81
 
First Half
  • Mason Brooks tallied a quick four points to kick off the scoring for the Golden Eagles, yet Cornerstone trailed 6-7 after the first two minutes of the game. 
  • Luke Rowlinson gave Cornerstone their first lead of the contest in the very next possession off a nice long-range jumper. 
  • Toby Woolcock fired in a pass to Mason Brooks for the transition bucket that gave Cornerstone a narrow 12-10 lead with 15 minutes left to play. 
  • The Warriors rallied back for a four-point run but Toby Woolcock answered right away with a confident drive and bucket to tie the game at 16-16 with 11 minutes left to play in the first half. 
  • Blake Stewart found his first basket of the game right at the halfway point of the first half for the Golden Eagles. 
  • Cornerstone opened their largest lead of the game off a Kayden Bird corner three as they led 23-18. 
  • The next time down the floor Kayden Bird knocked down another three point basket at the seven-minute mark of the game. 
  • The Golden Eagles began to heat up as they went on a 13-0 run with buckets from Mason Brooks and Levi Schultz leading the way. 
  • Luke Rowlinson cashed two more three pointers for the Golden Eagles as both had friendly rolls around the rim. 
  • Rochester Christian answered back with two three-point baskets of their own to cut the Cornerstone lead to eight points with one minute left to play in the half. 
  • Mason Brooks and Luke Rowlinson finished the first half in double digit scoring as Cornerstone led 43-35 at the halftime break. 
Second Half
  • The second half started strong for the Warriors as they found a transition dunk to gain some momentum to start the half, but Connor Dykema answered back with a bucket of his own. 
  • Mason Brooks took a confident step back three pointer to extend the Golden Eagle lead to 54-41 with 17 minutes left in the game. 
  • Blake Stewart and Luke Rowlinson continued to add buckets for the visitors with the score at 58-46. 
  • It was all offense for the Golden Eagles as Kayden Bird and Luke Rowlinson found another pair of three-point baskets to give Cornerstone a 66-50 advantage with 13 minutes left to play in the contest. 
  • Luke Rowlinson could not miss as he tallied his 22nd point and secured a 15-point lead for Cornerstone halfway through the second half. 
  • Blake Stewart laid off a perfect pass for Connor Dykema for the easy bucket as Cornerstone led 73-60 with eight minutes left to play. 
  • The Golden Eagles led 79-68 with six minutes left to play thanks to a couple strong buckets from Blake Stewart
  • Mason Brooks found a smooth turnaround jumper see Cornerstone secure a 14-point advantage as they headed into the closing minutes of the game. 
  • Toby Woolcock and Mason Brooks added clutch baskets down the stretch to secure the sweep over Rochester Christian with an 94-81 victory.

45 – The Golden Eagles led the rebound battle 45 to 26.
