Women’s Soccer Adds Their Third Victory in a Row with a 2-0 Win Against the Wolverines

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Soccer went to work under the lights against WHAC opponent Michigan-Dearborn and came away with a 2-0 win. Gracie Gortmaker and Ally Merrihew were the goal scorers on the evening as they each proved to be crucial in adding the team's third victory in a row. Cornerstone now turns their momentum towards Madonna on Saturday, October 25th for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff in the regular season finale.

First Half:
  • The Golden Eagles started the match on the front foot with a forced safe within the first five minutes of the contest through a Karsyn Hostetler shot. 
  • Audrey Johnson and Gracie Gortmaker were on the next effort from the Golden Eagles as they both forced more saves from the Wolverines keeper after a flurry of shots. 
  • Ally Merrihew found the opener for the home squad in the 34th minute of the match that was provided off a flawlessly placed corner kick from Brooke Harmsen
  • The Golden Eagles led the way in a dominant manner as they tallied 16 total shots compared to the Wolverines one at the halftime mark. 
Second Half:
  • Corinne McGlassion was forced to make an early save to start the second half as Michigan-Dearborn looked to get out on the front foot.
  • The Wolverines saw the first yellow card of the match in the 56th minute thanks to some aggressive play. 
  • The Golden Eagles looked to be playing for the win with all defense down the stretch until Gracie Gortmaker took a strong move onto her left foot which she rifled into the bottom left corner to seal the 2-0 victory for Cornerstone in the 85th minute.

6 – Cornerstone dominated the corner kick battle with six compared to Michigan-Dearborn's zero. 
24 – Cornerstone had 24 total shots in the match as the Wolverines only gathered six. 
4 – Gracie Gortmaker added her 4th goal of the season that makes her the top Golden Eagle scorer on the season.
