Women’s Volleyball Cruise Past Michigan-Dearborn in a Three-Set Match

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Volleyball closed out the week celebrating our Golden Eagle Alumni in today's match against Michigan-Dearborn. Gwyn VerBerkmoes and Anastacia Trevino led from the defensive side to highlight the match each collecting four blocks. Cornerstone will look to take this momentum into their next match against Siena Heights on Friday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. 
 
Game Recap – #RV Cornerstone – 3 Michigan-Dearborn – 0 (25-6, 25-13, 25-16)

 
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Michigan-Dearborn – 6
  • The Wolverines struggled to move the ball around as the attack errors piled up which gave Cornerstone a 9-2 advantage to start the match. 
  • Aubrey Johnson and Josilyn Potter found a pair of kills as Cornerstone continued to cruise through this first set. 
  • Gianna Warwick helped close out a dominant first set on a seven serve streak to take a 1-0 lead in the match.  
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Michigan-Dearborn – 13
  • The second set started off even as Cornerstone saw Ally Kragt and Gianna Warwick score to take a 6-5 lead. 
  • Dyllan Hanna and Lauren Bower both found a kill as the Golden Eagles began to extend their lead. 
  • Anastacia Trevino secured a pair of kills off two strong swings which boosted Cornerstone to a 21-9 lead. 
  • The Golden Eagles found another smooth set victory as they inched closer to the sweep. 
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Michigan-Dearborn – 16
  • Payton Hutchinson led off well from behind the service line as Cornerstone jumped out to a 5-0 lead. 
  • The attack errors continued to pile up for Michigan-Dearborn which gave Cornerstone a 10-4 advantage. 
  • The Wolverines simply could not match up as Gwyn VerBerkmoes closed out the sweep with another powerful kill. 
By The Numbers:
9 – The Golden Eagles were a formidable force at the net with nine total kills in the match compared to the Wolverines one. 
12 – Cornerstone tallied their 12th sweep of the 2025 season in 16 wins.

Women's Volleyball plans to recognize World Mental Health Day in their next matchup against Siena Heights inside Mol Arena on Friday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m.
