Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Soccer traveled over to Siena Heights for a WHAC battle under the lights. The ladies struggled to find the final pass as their offense was unable to move past the Saints. Cornerstone struck the crossbar twice in the contest but each time Siena Heights was gifted the friendly bounce. The Golden Eagles next test comes on Saturday, October 11 at 4:00 p.m. against Lourdes.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Siena Heights – 1
First Half:
- The Saints found the first shot of the match come early but Corinne McGlassion was alert to the danger.
- Madeline Billings was able to find some space, but her shot was dragged wide in the 6th minute of the match with the score still at 0-0.
- First blood was drawn in the 21st minute of the match as Jenna Moeller was slid through as they buried the shot in the far-right corner to snatch the 1-0 lead for the Saints.
- Madie Smith was able to find a narrow shot in the 28th minute that struck the crossbar for the Golden Eagles, but the score remained at 1-0.
- The halftime score ended in favor of Siena Heights as they held a slim 1-0 lead on their home turf.
Second Half:
- The second half started well in favor of the Golden Eagles as they came out swinging, but Ally Merrihew saw her shot find the woodwork as Cornerstone was denied again in cruel fashion.
- Kaitlyn Sal and Gracie Gortmaker both saw opportunities at the 60-minute mark, but the Saints defense held strong.
- The next flurry of shots came from Brooke Harmsen, but both her shots went wide.
- The chances down the stretch fell apart for the Golden Eagles as they were unable to breakthrough having to accept the 1-0 defeat against Siena Heights.
