Men's Basketball Takes Down #RV Spring Arbor for First Win of the Season

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Basketball finished off the WHAC/Crossroads Challenge with a 75-71 win over #RV Spring Arbor University. Kayden Bird led the Golden Eagles with 16 points while Levi Schultz led CU with 10 rebounds. Men's Basketball is back in action on Saturday, November 8th as they host Olivet Nazarene University with tip-off set for 3 p.m. 
 
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 74 Indiana Wesleyan – 78
  • First Half
    • Blake Stewart started the scoring for Cornerstone with a layup making it 3-2 SAU to start the game.
    • Kayden Bird knocked down the Golden Eagles first three of the game to bring the score to 11-7 Spring Arbor.
    • Trenton Boike nailed a shot from beyond the arc to bring Cornerstone within two.
    • Cornerstone took their first lead of the game as Levi Schultz got loose on a fast break and slammed home a dunk to make it 18-16 CU.
    • The Golden Eagles grew their lead to seven as Colin Heyboer sunk a three pointer with 8:37 to go in the half.
    • Back-to-back buckets from Joel Nichols made it a 30-23 game in favor of Cornerstone. 
    • With 1:23 remaining the game is all tied up at 34 thanks to a layup from Blake Stewart.
    • Three pointers from both teams sent the game to halftime tied at 37.
  • Second Half
    • The second half started with Spring Arbor getting out to a six-point lead. 
    • Two made free-throws and a three-pointer from Blake Stewart brought CU back within one.
    • A three-point play from Andy Mora and a free throw from Blake Stewart gave the Golden Eagles the lead going up 46-43.
    • Mark DeVries finishes his layup to maintain the CU lead. 
    • Kayden Bird ties the game at 55 with a three, then drives through the paint for a layup to regain the lead.
    • Cornerstone grew their lead to nine with a three and a layup from Blake Stewart paired with a layup from Levi Schultz.
    • Trenton Boike hit both free throws to make it a 66-59 game with 3:23 to go.
    • Two more free throws this time from Andy Mora, gave CU an eight-point lead with less than a minute to go.
    • Kayden Bird sealed the game with two free throws of his own, giving Cornerstone a 75-74 win.
By the Numbers 
16/1.000– Kayden Bird led the Golden Eagles in points with 16 shooting 100% from the line with the two game sealing free throws. 
15/9 – Blake Stewart put up another solid performance, finishing second on the team in points with 15 and rebounds with 9.
10 – Levi Schultz led the Golden Eagles with 10 rebounds in the game.
