Women's Basketball Gets Back in the Win Column with Statement Win Over Grace Christian

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Basketball dominated on the road as they beat Grace Christian 81-33. Cornerstone opened the scoring and never looked back as they maintained the lead throughout the whole game. CU shot an impressive 45.5% in the first half before improving to 48.5% in the second half. Julie Ashbaugh led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 18 points, going a perfect six-for-six at the free throw line.

  • First Quarter
    • Julie Ashbaugh opened the scoring with a steal in the defensive end and drew a foul earning her an opportunity at the line, sinking both shots.
    • Gracie Gortmaker grew Cornerstone's lead as she forced a turnover and made a layup to make it a 4-0 game. 
    • The Golden Eagles made it 11-2 as Maddie Schuur nailed a three pointer and finished a layup off a steal by Julie Ashbaugh
    • Abby Hall closed out the quarter with a three to send it to the second quarter with Cornerstone up 16-2.
  • Second Quarter
  • Third Quarter
    • Julie Ashbaugh started the second half the same way she opened the first, with a pair of good free throws.
    • The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start with Julie Ashbaugh and Jaxi Long scoring early to give CU a 31-point lead.
    • Cornerstone added to their big lead to close out the quarter with good field goals from Laura Innerebner and Kylie Heck.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Abby Hall started off the fourth quarter with back-to-back field goals to make it 63-27 CU.
                  o   Three consecutive three pointers by the Golden Eagles extended their lead.
                  o   Another three, this time from Maddie Schuur made it a 46-point lead for cornerstone.
                  o   Kaila Aston and Kaleigh Swiger sealed the game with a layup each securing a 81-33 win for the Golden Eagles.

By the Numbers 
48 – Cornerstone won by 48 points. 
18/100% – Julie Ashbaugh led her team in total points, as she tallied 18 points and went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
12/2/3 – Gracie Gortmaker scored 12 points in her season debut while also picking up two rebounds and three steals.

The Golden Eagles open conference play at home on Wednesday, November 19th as they host Siena Heights at 5:30pm.
