Men's Basketball Closed Out the Weekend with Loss to Lourdes

Sylvania, Ohio – Men's Basketball (2-4) closed out the weekend with an 88-78 loss at Lourdes on Saturday, November 22nd. Kayden Bird led CU with 19 points while Mark DeVries grabbed eight boards which led the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone shot 42.9% from the field but weren't connecting on the deep ball shooting only 21.7% from beyond the arc. Men's Basketball returns home to face Defiance at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25th.

Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 78 Lourdes – 88

First Half
  • The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start only converting on one of their first five field goals, which saw Lourdes take an 11-2 lead.
  • Levi Schultz helped Cornerstone get within seven as he made a layup and knocked down a three. 
  • Blake Stewart got into a grove converting on back-to-back jumpers before finishing a layup to make 24-16 in favor of the Gray Wolves.
  • CU got within nine off two buckets from Kayden Bird.
  • With 3:25 left in the first half, Levi Schultz drained his second three of the game.
  • Joel Nichols and Levi Schultz close out the half with layups as Cornerstone trailed the Gray Wolves 48-35 going into halftime.
Second Half
  • Kayden Bird knocked down a three to open the second half for CU with Levi Schultz getting a layup to fall shortly after.
  • Mark DeVries and Blake Stewart exchange points assisting on each other's buckets as they worked on cutting into Lourdes' lead.
  • The Golden Eagles got back within single digits as Colin Heyboer and Mark DeVries got layups to fall.
  • With just under seven minutes left to play, Kayden Bird sunk both free throws which brought the score to 75-61 LU.
  • Blake Stewart got another layup to fall with four minutes remaining for his 18th point of the game.
  • Andy Mora and Mark DeVries closed out the game both knocking down two free throws, but CU came up short losing 88-78.

19– Kayden Bird led the Golden Eagles with 19 points.
18/6 – Blake Stewart recorded 18 points along with grabbing 6 boards. 
12/8 – Mark DeVries recorded 12 points and led CU with eight rebounds.
