Rio Grande, Ohio. – Women's Basketball made their down to Ohio for a couple games to finish out the 2025 year. Their travels began with a non-conference matchup against the Red Storm of the University of Rio Grande. The Red Storm held the advantage in the first quarter as some big stops helped Rio Grande to a 23-15 lead at the end of the first period of play. Cornerstone struggled to get much offense going in the second quarter as the Red Storm went on a 10-0 run early on and ended the half up 47-27. The Red Storm showed no remorse in the third quarter, as they reached a 30-point lead at one point and finished the quarter on top 74-45. Cornerstone were unable to work their way back into the contest as the University of Rio Grande took the home win 90-64. The Golden Eagles will continue their Ohio trek with another non-conference game against the College of Coastal Georgia in Rio Grande, Ohio on the 30th of December at 12 p.m.

First Quarter

The lid of the bucket was removed for Cornerstone thanks to a three-pointer by Abi Bandstra to put them up 3-2.

Gracie Gortmaker made her layup with Cornerstone trailing 16-11 in the first.

Two free throws made by Julie Ashbaugh cut the Red Storm lead to just five points with about a minute left to go in the first quarter 19-14.

The final points for Cornerstone in the first quarter came from a free throw by Gracie Gortmaker, as the Golden Eagles still were behind 23-15.

Second Quarter

The Red Storm were on fire in the second quarter, as they held Cornerstone from scoring any points until two minutes in. Rio Grande went on a 10-point run to throw up an 18-point lead 33-15.

Gracie Gortmaker ended the scoring drought for Cornerstone with a layup at the two minute mark in the second quarter.

Rio Grande saw their way to a 20-point lead in the second quarter as Jaxi Long kept pushing to earn two more points for the Golden Eagles as the score remained in the Red Storm's favor 47-27.

Third Quarter

To cut the Red Storm lead back to 20, Julie Ashbaugh took it in for a layup. The score remained in Rio Grande's favor 49-29.

A Red Storm layup with about three and a half minutes left to go in the third quarter saw them to a 30-point lead 67-37.

Maddie Schuur made her three-point attempt for Cornerstone who were still far behind 71-44.

The third quarter would end with Rio Grande on top by 29 points 74-45.

Fourth Quarter

The University of Rio Grande pulled ahead to a 31-point lead at the beginning of the final quarter 76-45.

Jaxi Long ended the scoring drought for Cornerstone with a nicely taken jump shot about a minute into the quarter.

Another three-pointer by Maddie Schuur helped give Cornerstone a lifeline but the Red Storm still were up 80-52.

A six-point run midway through the fourth quarter by Rio Grande built their lead back to 34 points 86-52.

Two layups in a row by Kaila Aston in the final three minutes inched Cornerstone closer but the game was out of reach as the Red Storm took the win at home 90-64.
By the Numbers
12 – Gracie Gortmaker led the way for Cornerstone going 5-9 from the field to total 12 points on the day.
10/4 – Jaxi Long hit double digit points again with 10 points and followed it up with four rebounds.
