Women's Basketball Closes Out 2025 with a Loss to Coastal Georgia

Rio Grande, Ohio – Women's Basketball closes out 2025 with a loss to Coastal Georgia in the Rio Grande Classic. Julie Ashbaugh led the Golden Eagles with 30 points with Jaxi Long finishing right behind her with 27 points. Cornerstone Women's Basketball is back in action at home against University of Northwestern Ohio on January 3rd with tipoff set for 12 p.m.

  • First Quarter
  • Second Quarter
    • Coastal Georgia came out strong in the second quarter to take over the lead, but two free throws from Julie Ashbaugh tied the game at 27.
    • After a three-minute scoring drought Julie Ashbaugh finished a fastbreak with a layup to keep CU within one.
    • Coastal Georgia got out to an eight-point lead to force CU to take a timeout with 1:46 left.
    • Ten seconds later Julie Ashbaugh drilled two more free throws to cut into the lead.
    • With a minute left in the second quarter Jaxi Long nailed another three to get the Golden Eagles within six.
    • Ellie Neuhaus closed out the first half with a made jumper with Cornerstone heading into the locker room down 46-39.
  • Third Quarter
    • The third quarter with Coastal Georgia going on a 6-0 run before Julie Ashbaugh scored on another fastbreak to get CU within 11.
    • Julie Ashbaugh continued to stay hot as she drained a shot from beyond the arc which got the Golden Eagles back within single digits.
    • Jaxi Long followed that up with a three of her own which made it 53-47.
    • The Mariners went on another run and got back out to a 15-point lead with 6:39 left in the third quarter. 
    • Two free throws from Julie Ashbaugh kept CU within 15.
    • With under a minute to go Jaxi Long made both free throws and Julie Ashbaugh finished a layup to make it a 82-59 game going into the fourth quarter.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • The fourth quarter began with Julie Ashbaugh making back-to-back layups and a free throw to get Cornerstone within 18.
    • Jaxi Long continued to produce as she nailed another three and capped off another layup with her sinking her and one chance.
    • Kennedy Matheny drained a three of her own midway through the fourth which was followed by a layup from Julie Ashbaugh to give CU 77 points.
    • Kaila Aston got a layup to fall with 3:15 left in the quarter.
    • Cornerstone's final points would come from two free throws from Lily Gortmaker with 2:19 left in the game and would go on to fall to the Mariners 109-83.
By the Numbers 
27/8 – Jaxi Long scored 27 points while also tallying eight rebounds.
30/9 – Julie Ashbaugh led the Golden Eagles with 30 points and nine boards.

Cornerstone Women's Basketball is back in action at home against University of Northwestern Ohio on January 3rd with tipoff set for 12 p.m.
