CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Men's Volleyball had one more day in Kentucky as they took on #12 Reinhardt and #14 Campbellsville. The Golden Eagles opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of #12 Reinhardt behind
Ernest Broaster's monster day of 15 kills, hitting .571 for the match. The Galanes brothers Andrew and David combined for 23 kills in the victory. Next, the Golden Eagles face off against #14 Campbellsville and came away with their second 3-0 sweep of the day.
Ernest Broaster once again led the way with 11 kills as
Brunno Peres had a five-ace performance. Men's Volleyball ends the week going 4-0 as they return home for a quick two-day tournament on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8.
Game One Recap – #13 Cornerstone – 3 #12 Reinhardt – 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Reinhardt - 15
- Cornerstone jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead over Reinhardt thanks to kills from Andrew Galanes and David Galanes.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone early in the first set as back-to-back kills and a block from Andrew Galanes made it a 10-2 game.
- Andrew Galanes would now collect a service ace as Ernest Broaster recorded back-to-back kills to make it 14-3 Cornerstone as Reinhardt calls a timeout.
- Reinhardt has used a small 6-3 run to cut into the Golden Eagle lead 17-9 before Hubert Sliwinski would end the run with a kill.
- Joshua Beaumont and Patrick Voloch would collect a big block as the Golden Eagles found themselves two points away from a first set victory.
- Ernest Broaster and Joshua Beaumont would put the final touches on the first set with kills to take it 25-15 over Reinhardt.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Reinhardt - 17
- The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 4-2 lead after a block from Joshua Beaumont, Ernest Broaster, and Andrew Galanes.
- Three straight errors from the Golden Eagles gave Reinhardt a 4-2 run of their own as they would tie it at six early in the second set.
- Cornerstone would respond with a quick 4-1 run to retake the lead 10-7 after a Brunno Peres service ace.
- Ernest Broaster started to give the fans in the stands a show as back-to-back kills and a service ace helped Cornerstone extend their lead 16-12 over Reinhardt halfway through the second set.
- After a quick two points from Reinhardt, a 4-0 Golden Eagle run made it 20-14 late thanks to Brunno Peres's serves and kills from David Galanes and Ernest Broaster.
- The Golden Eagles take the second set 25-17 thanks to another kill from Ernest Broaster. He has a game high 11 through the first two sets on a .692 percentage.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Reinhardt - 22
- The third set opened close as the game is tied at three after both teams have struggled with errors.
- The Golden Eagles found their rhythm on offense as kills from Andrew Galanes, Ernest Broaster, and Joshua Beaumont helped give Cornerstone a 7-3 lead.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone early in the third set as another error by the Eagles helped the Golden Eagles maintain a 10-5 advantage.
- Back-to-back kills and a block from David Galanes helped Cornerstone take a 14-8 advantage halfway through the third set.
- Reinhardt has started to rally on offense as they used a 6-2 run to make it a 16-14 game.
- Reinhardt has battled back to tie the game at 19 as the Golden Eagles look to regroup and finish the set strong.
- A 3-1 run highlighted by a David Galanes service ace helped the Golden Eagles take a 22-20 lead late in the third.
- Andrew Galanes and Ernest Broaster were too much to handle late for the Eagles as their kills help Cornerstone win the third and final set 25-22.
Game Two Recap – #13 Cornerstone – 3 #14 Campbellsville – 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-15)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Campbellsville – 21
- A David Galanes kill helped give Cornerstone an early 3-2 advantage over Campbellsville
- The first set continued to remain tight as a kill from Patrick Voloch made it an 8-8 game.
- The Golden Eagles found some momentum on the offensive side as a 5-1 run saw them extend their lead 13-9.
- Cornerstone continued to put the pressure on the Tigers as a kill from David Galanes and Andrew Galanes made it a 17-13 game.
- Brunno Peres collected a service ace as that highlighted a quick 3-0 Golden Eagle run that made it 20-16.
- Campbellsville has continued to stick around as a few kills made it a 22-20 game.
- Andrew Galanes and Ernest Broaster put the final touches on the first set with kills as the Golden Eagles took set one 25-21.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Campbellsville – 22
- Campbellsville jumped out to an early 3-1 lead over the Golden Eagles to start set two.
- Cornerstone has responded nicely with a 5-1 run thanks to kills from Andrew Galanes, David Galanes, and Ernest Boaster to take the lead 6-4.
- A huge 6-0 run by the Golden Eagles behind three Brunno Peres service aces gave Cornerstone some room, 14-9.
- Back-to-back kills and a block from Ernest Broaster made it a 19-14 Golden Eagle lead late in the second set.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone in the second set as multiple kills made it a 23-17 game.
- Campbellsville has used a late rally to make it a close game, but David Galanes said no to that as his kill ended the second set in a 25-22 Cornerstone victory.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Campbellsville – 15
- Cornerstone jumped out to a big 6-0 run to open the third set thanks to four kills all off the set of Patrick Voloch.
- The Golden Eagles continued to find easy kills as this one from Joshua Beaumont made it a 10-4 Cornerstone advantage.
- No other than Brunno Peres once again as his service ace made it 15-6 Cornerstone halfway through the third set.
- Joshua Beaumont and Andrew Galanes form a wall at the net as their block gave Cornerstone a 20-10 advantage late in the third set.
- The Golden Eagles walked out of Kentucky with their second sweep of the day as Cornerstone takes the final set 25-15.
