GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Volleyball had their first two home matches on the year as they took on Calumet and IU East. The Golden Eagles extended their sweep streak to four as they swept both Calumet and IU East 3-0. Cornerstone saw contributions from all over tonight as multiple players had kills, digs, blocks, and assists in their two victories. Men's Volleyball improves to 6-0 on the year as they take on Governors State tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
Game One Recap – #13 Cornerstone – 3 Calumet – 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Calumet – 23
- Calumet jumped out to a quick 3-1 over the Golden Eagles thanks to a service ace.
- It continued to be all Crimson Wave early as a 3-0 run made it a 7-4 game as the Golden Eagles looked to regroup.
- Cornerstone tied the match at eight as they took advantage of Calumet's error as they also used an Ernest Broaster service ace.
- David Galanes collected back-to-back service aces to help the Golden Eagles take a 13-10 lead over Calumet.
- Calumet has continued to stick around against the Golden Eagles as a kill made it a 16-15 game.
- The Golden Eagles found some easy scores to extend their lead as a kill from David Galanes and a service ace from Patrick Voloch made it 20-16.
- Calumet responded with a 4-1 run to make it 21-20 late in the first set.
- Cornerstone regrouped and got it done in the first set as a block from Joshua Beaumont and Patrick Voloch closed the first set in Cornerstone's favor, 25-23.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Calumet – 20
- It was all Cornerstone early in the second set as they jumped out to a 5-1 run behind kills from Andrew Galanes and Ernest Broaster.
- Ernest Broaster recorded another kill in the second set as the Golden Eagles lead Calumet 10-5.
- The Crimson Wave have used a 4-0 run to get right back into the game as the Golden Eagles lead 11-10.
- The Golden Eagles would respond nicely with a 5-1 run to make it 16-11 after an Andrew Galanes kill.
- Andrew Galanes and David Galanes record kills late in the second set to help the Golden Eagles take a 20-15 lead.
- The final point belonged to Ernest Broaster as his kill gave Cornerstone a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 set two victory.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Calumet – 18
- Cornerstone jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to kills from Ernest Broaster, Andrew Galanes, and Hubert Sliwinski.
- Calumet has stuck around as their kills made it a 9-8 Golden Eagle advantage.
- Cornerstone found their rhythm on offense as they ran off six straight points to extend their lead 15-9 over Calumet.
- Kyi Jagorin would record a service ace, and Joshua Beaumont would follow with a solo block to make it 19-12 Cornerstone.
- Matthew True and Joshua Beaumont found kills late in the third set as the Golden Eagles lead 23-17.
- Hubert Sliwinski and Andrew Galanes blocked the Calumet attack to help Cornerstone complete the 3-0 sweep, 25-18.
Game Two Recap – #13 Cornerstone – 3 IU East – 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 IU East – 21
- Cornerstone and IU East opened with a back-and-forth affair as they both used service errors in their early points.
- IU East continued to use the Golden Eagle errors as they took an early 8-5 lead over Cornerstone.
- The Golden Eagles would respond with a 5-1 run to take a 10-9 lead over IU East as now they have taken advantage of their errors.
- The run continued for Cornerstone as Andrew Galanes would record a block and back-to-back kills to make it a 15-11 Golden Eagle advantage.
- Ernest Broaster would record a service ace and David Galanes would follow with a kill to make it a 19-14 game late in the first set.
- Hubert Sliwinski and Andrew Galanes put the final touches on the first set with kills as Cornerstone takes set one 25-21.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 IU East – 17
- IU East jumped out to an early 3-2 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone has used a 6-0 run that forced IU East into a timeout as the now lead 8-3.
- The run continued as Matthew True would record a kill and Brunno Peres would record a service ace as it is all Cornerstone, 11-3.
- Matthew True and Ethan Walker recorded easy kills off the set of Patrick Voloch as Cornerstone leads 19-10 late in the second set.
- Another kill from Ethan Walker made it 22-12 as the Golden Eagles look to clean up set two.
- Brunno Peres recorded back-to-back kills to end the second set as Cornerstone took it 25-17.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 IU East – 18
- Cornerstone took a quick 3-1 lead over IU East thanks to three straight errors.
- IU East would tie the match at six as they would take advantage of Cornerstone's errors.
- Joshua Beaumont and Matthew True found some kills from Patrick Volcoh as that made it an 11-9 Cornerstone advantage.
- A Hunter DeYoung kill and a Brunno Peres service ace helped Cornerstone extend their lead 16-11 as IU East called a timeout.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone late in the third set as Hunter DeYoung and Matthew True recorded kills off the pass of Kyle Hortness to make 21-13.
- Cornerstone would sweep IU East 25-18 thanks to a service error to end the match.
