Ernest Broaster's 12 kills. The Golden Eagles improve to 8-0 on the year as they will travel to #9 Lawrence Tech for an early season conference road test on Friday, February 14.
Game One Recap – #13 Cornerstone – 3 Aquinas – 0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Aquinas – 17
- Cornerstone opened on a quick 4-1 run thanks to kills from Hubert Sliwinski and Brunno Peres.
- A kill from Matthew True made it 9-5 but a few Golden Eagle errors helped Aquinas stick around early in the first set.
- Thanks to a Golden Eagle service error, the Saints have tied the match at 11.
- The Golden Eagles have found some momentum as a 4-1 run sees them take a 15-12 advantage over the Saints.
- An Ernest Broaster kill and a Patrick Voloch ace made it a 21-15 Golden Eagle lead late in the first set.
- The final kill belonged to Ernest Broaster as the Golden Eagles won the first set 25-17.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Aquinas – 22
- Cornerstone opened the second set on a 4-2 run thanks to a few Aquinas errors and a David Galanes kill.
- A Cornerstone error and back-to-back kills from the Saints saw them take an 8-7 lead.
- Aquinas continued to hold the lead over the Golden Eagles as a service error made it 14-12 halfway through the second set.
- Three straight kills from Matthew True, David Galanes, and Brunno Peres helped Cornerstone regain the lead over Aquinas 17-16.
- Another 3-0 run by Cornerstone highlighted by back-to-back service aces from Patrick Voloch made it 20-17 Cornerstone late.
- Multiple errors by the Golden Eagles helped Aquinas stick around as CU leads 22-21.
- Cornerstone finally put Aquinas away behind David Galanes' final kill to win 25-22.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Aquinas – 17
- Cornerstone and Aquinas opened the third set close as service errors by the Golden Eagles gave the Saints easy points early.
- Aquinas called a timeout after a Brunno Peres service ace and a block from Ernest Broaster and Ethan Walker as the Goden Eagles lead 8-4.
- Kills from Matthew True and Brunno Peres made it 14-10 before a service error gave Aquinas a little momentum.
- Patrick Voloch has turned to Ernest Broaster late as another kill from him made it 20-14 late.
- Brunno Peres put the perfect final touch on the set with a service ace as the Golden Eagles win set three 25-17 and sweep Aquinas 3-0.
