DAVENPORT, Fla. – It was a football game between Cornerstone and Mount Vernon this morning with the Cougars coming out on to 17-10 over the Golden Eagles. Mount Vernon jumped out to an early 10-1 lead but a big eight run inning by Cornerstone made it interesting, but it wasn't enough to overcome in the loss.

Andrew Meny drove in four. Cornerstone faces off against Bethel tomorrow morning for a double header starting at 11 a.m.
Game Recap: Mount Vernon Nazarene – 17 Cornerstone - 10
- It was a rough start for the Golden Eagles as they loaded the bases with no outs on a hit by pitch and two walks as Mount Vernon had all the momentum on their side early. The Cougars scored four in the inning to take a 4-0 lead thanks to three bases loaded walks and one hit by pitch.
- Matthew Kindley got the Golden Eagles on the board in the bottom of the first with a long homerun over the right center fence to make it a 4-1 game after the first.
- After loading the bases again with nobody out, the Cougars would hit a grand slam to take an 8-1 lead over the Golden Eagles as zero outs remain in the inning. The inning continued for Mount Vernon as they would load the bases again and would later hit a two-run double to make it 10-1.
- Scott Cavitt worked around a one out triple in the third to keep the Cougars off the board.
- Andrew Meny came through with runners on second and third with a triple to score both runners as the game is now 10-3 Mount Vernon. Corbin Westerkamp would later drive in the runner from third with a single into left to make it 10-4. Michael Ruiz, Luke Griffith, and Jack Gagliardi would all drive in runs with singles as the Golden Eagles have scored six in the inning as it is now 10-7. Andrew Meny would come to the plate again and would drive in two more with a single as it is now 10-9 after the third.
- Scott Cavitt worked a much-needed clean inning to get the bats back in action in the bottom of the fourth.
- Mount Vernon would tack on a run in the top of the fifth on a sac fly to make it an 11-9 game in the fifth.
- Luke Griffith opened the bottom of the fifth turning on a fastball for a homerun over the right center fence to make it an 11-10 game.
- The Cougars would answer with a homerun of their own in the sixth with a two out solo shot to make it 12-10.
- After two outs in the seventh, Mount Vernon hit a single deep in the shortstop hole to score two runs as they extended their lead 14-10 over the Golden Eagles.
- Mount Vernon loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the eighth and would score three runs thanks to two sac fly's and an error to extend their lead 17-10.
- The Golden Eagles would reach base in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to add to their tally as they fall to Mount Vernon 17-10.
