Winning ways continue for Men's Volleyball as they defeat Siena Heights 3-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Volleyball continued their winning ways with another conference victory, this one over Siena Heights 3-1. The Golden Eagles dominated in every aspect of the match as they held the Saints to a .147 hitting percentage on 26 errors. They also recorded 13 service aces on the day behind Ernest Broaster's five with David Galanes leading the way in kills with 14. Men's Volleyball improves to 13-1 (6-1) on the year as they will now pack their bags and head west to take on Benedictine Mesa in Arizona for spring break on Wednesday, March 5.
 
Game Recap – #6 Cornerstone – 3 Siena Heights – 1 (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19)
 
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Siena Heights – 17  
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Siena Heights – 19
  • Cornerstone opened the second set on a 3-0 run thanks to three straight errors by the Saints.
  • Siena Heights has stuck around as a solo block made it a 7-6 game in the second set.
  • A 4-1 run by the Saints ties the game at 11 as Siena Heights looks to have all the momentum on their side.
  • A 4-1 run by the Golden Eagles this time forced Siena Heights into a timeout as David Galanes recorded a service ace as Cornerstone leads 17-13.
  • The blocks continued for Cornerstone as this time Patrick Voloch and Joshua Beaumont recorded one as it is now 20-14.
  • Siena Heights has made it interesting late as a block from them made it 22-19.
  • The Golden Eagles finished the set on a 3-0 run to take it 25-19 thanks to a kill and solo block from Andrew Galanes.
 
Third Set: Siena Heights – 25 Cornerstone – 23
  • Cornerstone and Siena Heights trade points back-and-forth early as a block from the Saints made it 3-3.
  • Thanks to five straight points, Cornerstone now leads Siena Heights 10-5 thanks to numerous errors from the Saints.
  • A kill from Andrew Galanes was followed by back-to-back aces from Ernest Broaster as the Golden Eagles lead big 17-9.
  • Ernest Broaster recorded back-to-back kills as the Golden Eagles see the end in sight as it is 22-15.
  • Siena Heights has used a miraculous seven straight points to tie the game at 22 as Cornerstone finally used one of their two timeouts to regroup.
  • After an Ernest Broaster kill, Siena Heights would win the next three points thanks to back-to-back service aces to take set three 25-23. Outscoring the Golden Eagles 10-1 in the final 11 points.
 
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 25 Siena Heights – 19
  • David Galanes recorded a kill to help Cornerstone open a 3-1 lead to start the fourth set.
  • Both Siena Heights and Cornerstone trade 3-0 runs but the Golden Eagles remain ahead 6-5.
  • A big 5-0 run by the Golden Eagles forced Siena Heights into a timeout as David Galanes recorded two service aces and a kill.
  • Siena Heights would return the favor with a 5-0 run of their own as the Golden Eagles remain ahead 15-12.
  • Andrew Galanes would record a kill as Cornerstone broke the 20 mark as they lead 20-14.
  • Siena Height looked to repeat the third set as a 5-1 run late made it 21-19.
  • There was no repeat of the third set as Cornerstone would win the final four points to take set four 25-19 behind a Kyi Jagorin service ace.
