Men's Volleyball returns to conference play with a 3-0 sweep of Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. – Men's Volleyball returned to conference play with a matchup against Goshen and came away with a 3-0 sweep. Cornerstone took advantage of Goshen's errors early and often on their way to a 3-0 victory. The Golden Eagles collected 10 aces and eight total blocks as they took control of the net and serves. Andrew Galanes led the way with 16.5 total points in the win. Men's Volleyball improves to 14-3 (7-1) on the year as they will travel to Governors State on Saturday, March 15 for a pair of matches.
 
Game Recap – #5 Cornerstone – 3 Goshen – 0 (25-21, 25-12
 
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Goshen – 21
  • Cornerstone jumped out to an early 4-2 lead as they took advantage of Goshen's errors.
  • A kill and service ace from David Galanes forced Goshen to call their first timeout of the set as the Golden Eagles lead 11-6.
  • Three straight points from the Golden Eagles made it 16-10 as the run was highlighted by an Ernest Broaster service ace.
  • The Maple Leafs called their final timeout of the set as a block from David Galanes and Ethan Walker made it 19-11.
  • A 6-2 Goshen run saw the Maple Leafs cut into the Golden Eagle lead as it is 21-17 late in the first set.
  • Hubert Sliwinski put the final touch on the first set with an over ball kill to give Cornerstone a 25-21 victory.
 
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Goshen - 12
  • Goshen used an early timeout in the set as two service aces from Patrick Voloch highlighted a 5-0 run to open the second set.
  • It continued to be all Cornerstone early in the second set as an Ernest Broaster service ace and a David Galanes kill made it 9-4.
  • Joshua Beaumont and Ernest Broaster collected back-to-back kills for the Golden Eagles to make it 16-9.
  • Elijah Pleune got in on the service ace action with one of his own to make it 19-10 late in the second set.
  • The Golden Eagles ended the second set with three straight blocks to take a second set victory 25-12.
 
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Goshen – 17
  • After being tied early, a kill from Ethan Walker and David Galanes gave Cornerstone a 6-3 advantage.
  • Goshen was forced into their first timeout of the set after a Golden Eagle 4-0 run saw them take a 10-6 advantage.
  • Goshen has kept it close in the third set as a kill from the Maple Leafs made it 13-10.
  • Back-to-back errors from Goshen and a kill from Andrew Galanes made it 17-11 Cornerstone late in the third set.
  • A kill from Ernest Broaster and a service ace from Hunter DeYoung helped Cornerstone extend their lead 22-16 late.
  • Elijah Pleune capped of the third set with a service ace to give Cornerstone the 25-17 third set victory and 3-0 sweep of Goshen.

16.5 – Andrew Galaned led the Golden Eagles in total points with 16.5 behind 11 kills, two service aces, and five total blocks.
10 – Cornerstone collected 10 service aces for the match compared to Goshen's one
