GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Volleyball opened their road trip with a 3-0 sweep of Mount Vernon. Cornerstone dominated all day as they hit .514 on 42 kills while also recording 11 aces.
Matthew True led the Golden Eagles with nine kills as
Ernest Broaster had seven aces. Men's Volleyball improved to 18-6 (9-2) on the year as they travel to Indiana Tech for a conference matchup starting at 3 p.m.
Game One Recap – #10 Cornerstone – 3 Mount Vernon Nazarene – 0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-21)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Mount Vernon – 11
- Cornerstone jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead over Mount Vernon thanks to a couple service aces from Patrick Voloch.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone early in the first set as a 4-0 run highlighted by a Kyi Jagorin service ace made it 12-2.
- Patrick Voloch recorded a kill then a block to extend Cornerstones lead 17-6.
- Cornerstone finished the first set on a 6-0 run highlighted by kills from Matthew True, Hubert Sliwinski, and Andrew Galanes to take set one 25-11.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Mount Vernon – 19
- It was the Ernest Broaster service show as he collected three service aces in a 7-0 Golden Eagle run that saw them take an 8-2 lead.
- The kills kept piling up for the Golden Eagles as they saw one from Brunno Peres, Matthew True, and Ethan Walker ro make it 11-3.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone in the second set as kills from Joshua Beaumont and Ernest Broaster made it 17-9
- Mount Vernon has used a late 5-1 run to make it closer for the Golden Eagles 20-16.
- Matthew True recorded back-to-back kills for the Golden Eagles as they are one point away from a set two victory.
- Joshua Beaumont put the final touch for the Golden Eagles with a kill to take set two 25-19.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Mount Vernon – 21
- Mount Vernon jumped out to a 4-2 lead to open the third set.
- A 5-1 run by the Golden Eagles saw them take a 7-5 lead thanks to a Mitchell Carrera service ace and a Matthew True kill.
- Another big run by the Golden Eagles saw them take a 13-8 lead over Mount Vernon thanks to a kill from Ernest Broaster.
- Cornerstone continued to lead late against the Cougars as a kill from Ethan Walker and Patrick Voloch made it 19-14.
- The Cougars made a late rally to make it a 21-19 game late.
- Cornerstone finished the set with three straight points with a final point block from Hubert Sliwinski and Andrew Galanes to win 25-21.
