Sylvania, Ohio – Softball took a trip to Lourdes where they came away with a split. In game one it took 10 innings to decide a winner as Lourdes inched past the Golden Eagles. Game two belonged to the Golden Eagles as they clutched a 3-2 win to secure head coach
Kelsey Kooistra's 100
th career win. Cornerstone will return home for a double-header against UNOH on Saturday, April 12
th at 1pm and 3pm.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 5 Lourdes – 6
- Morgan Jenkins kicked off the game with a solid single and stolen base to set up the Golden Eagles early in the contest.
- Back-to-back scarifies allowed for Cornerstone to secure the lead and first run of the game after the 1stinning.
- Cornerstone continued the small ball success after Emma Boonstra singled as they took a 2-0 lead after the top of the 3rd inning.
- The Lourdes bats got hot quickly as they managed to drive in two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game at 2-2.
- The Golden Eagles defense continued to slip as the Gray Wolves tallied another run in the 4th inning to take their first lead of the game.
- The top of the 6th belonged to the Golden Eagles as Maddy Chatman kicked off the inning with a single and stolen base.
- Moriah Sprague and Sam Timmer cracked deep balls for Cornerstone which drove in 3 runs which gave the Golden Eagles a 5-3 lead.
- Lourdes refused to quit as they responded right away to tie the game up once again headed into the final inning.
- It took 10 innings to decide the winner of game one as the Gray Wolves finally broke down the Cornerstone defense to win 6-5.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Lourdes – 2
- Sam Timmer struck first for the Golden Eagles in game two with a double into right field, but the Golden Eagles could not find any joy.
- The game remained scoreless through the first three innings of the game with both defenses holding strong.
- Dylan Holmes and Emma Boonstra singled to kick off a strong 5th inning.
- The Golden Eagles next big play came from Anna Griffioen as she tripled to drive in Cornerstone runs.
- Alayna Meade finished the top of the 5th with a single to boost Cornerstone to a 3-0 lead.
- Lourdes got started right behind the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the 5th with two runs of their own as Cornerstone still held a 3-2 lead.
- The Golden Eagles saw Anna Griffioen and Alayna Meade continue solid performances in the top of the 7th with singles to set up Cornerstone, but they could not find any runs.
- McKenna Gilde closed out her strong outing with two strikeouts to secure the 3-2 victory in game two.
