Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Soccer saw two first half goals make the difference as they were unable to breakthrough losing 2-0 to Trinity Christian. Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Trinity Christian - 2
First Half:
- The Trolls came out of the gates strong and were rewarded early with a goal in the 7th minute of the game thanks to a free kick from outside the box.
- The Golden Eagles saw some strong hold up play from freshman Joslyn McGlassion that set the tone as they looked to get a grip on the match.
- Cornerstone struggled to find a hold in the contest still as Trinity Christian doubled their lead with a top net finish at the 29-minute mark.
- Madeline Billings sparked the offense well with strong runs up the left side of the pitch, but she was unable to provide the final pass to hurt the Trolls.
- The Golden Eagles made a late push in the half, but the score remained at 2-0 which left them with quite the uphill battle.
Second Half:
- The second half Cornerstone found a flurry of shots but continued to be held out by the Trolls.
- Tori Woodwyk found a wide-open lane to shoot and just struck it too high as Cornerstone still trailed 2-0 at the 62ndminute.
- The Trolls transitioned late towards a counter attacking play style finding multiple fast breaks but the Cornerstone back line held strong so far in the second half.
- Gracie Gortmaker nearly found the opener for the home team, but her shot was saved on the open net opportunity in the 76th minute.
- Pure chaos from the Trolls defending told the story in the 81st minute but the Golden Eagles still could not break through.
- Trinity Christian held their lead well to close out the match at 2-0 spoiling the ladies home opener.
