Box Score Spring Arbor, Mich. – Women's Volleyball was unable to hold on to their 2-0 lead as they fell in five sets to the Cougars. Spring Arbor used their home crowd advantage to rally enough to bring home the win.
Josilyn Potter led the way for the Golden Eagles with 15 kills on the day. The ladies are back in action this weekend with a double match day against IUSB and Bethel on Saturday, August 30.
Game Recap – #RV Cornerstone – 2 Spring Arbor – 3 (25-19, 28-26, 21-25, 17-25, 13-15)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Spring Arbor – 19
- The Golden Eagles controlled the momentum early with a 4-0 start thanks to kills from Gabby VerBerkmoes and Aubrey Johnson.
- The attacking errors piled up fast as Cornerstone continued to cruise with a 10-4 lead.
- Spring Arbor made a strong push late in the set to bring it within two points, but the Golden Eagles had too much poise to drop the set taking it 25-19.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 28 Spring Arbor – 26
- Alli Pickard set the tone in the second set with multiple service aces that boosted CU to a 6-1 lead.
- Josilyn Potter got her strong day rolling with kills in the second set as Cornerstone led 11-4.
- It was a back-and-forth battle between both teams in the set with the score tied at 24-24 with everything to play for.
- Josilyn Potter and Aubrey Johnson closed out the set when it mattered most with clutch kills to take it 28-26.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 21 Spring Arbor – 25
- The Cougars jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the set and began to build strength with their home crowd.
- Senior Emmalee Murphy gathered two kills to help CU regain the lead at 10-9 for the Golden Eagles.
- Six consecutive points from Spring Arbor put the set just too far out of reach for Cornerstone as they dropped the set 25-21.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 17 Spring Arbor – 25
- Another equally strong start from each team came in the fourth set with the match at a true turning point with it tied at 10-10.
- Spring Arbor went on a strong run to take a dominant 21-13 lead in the fourth.
- Cornerstone dropped their second set of the day meaning it would take a fifth set to decide the contest.
Fifth Set: Cornerstone – 13 Spring Arbor – 15
- Gianna Warwick and Josilyn Potter found kills to start the final set, but they remained multiple points behind the Cougars.
- Both squads traded attacking errors down the road until it finally made the difference in the whole match with Spring Arbor taking the five-set comeback win.
