Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Volleyball celebrated their home opener with a dominant sweep over #RV Lindsey Wilson.
Josilyn Potter led the way with a strong 10 kill match boosting the Golden Eagles to a 6-2 record. Cornerstone will turnaround right away with two more matches on Saturday, September 6
th inside Mol Arena.
Game Recap – #RV Cornerstone – 3 #RV Lindsey Wilson – 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-16)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Lindsey Wilson – 18
- The match started out gritty on both sides as each team looked to boost themselves into a lead at 5-5.
- The Golden Eagles gathered a strong service ace from Payton Hutchinson and kill from Gwyneth VerBerkmoes, yet it was still a deadlock at 10-10.
- Gianna Warwick began to build on her service play giving Cornerstone five straight points as they led 15-10.
- Aubrey Johnson then dominated throughout the end of set which resulted in a 25-18 win.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Lindsey Wilson – 20
- Alli Pickard kicked off the second set with a strong showing as she led CU to the quick 4-2 lead.
- The momentum slowed for the Golden Eagles as they trailed 11-7 at the halfway mark of the set.
- Ava Ford worked well serving for Cornerstone which helped them tie the match at 11 a piece.
- After a back and forth battle the Blue Raiders began to slip giving up seven consecutive points.
- Another clutch moment for Aubrey Johnson came at the end of the set as she collected an ace and kill to close out the set which gave Cornerstone a 2-0 advantage.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Lindsey Wilson – 16
- The strong swings continued to rain down on Lindsey Wilson which helped Cornerstone to a 5-2 lead.
- The VerBerkmoes sisters dominated the net reaching high with Cornerstone now leading 10-5.
- The serving for the Golden Eagles continued to impress with Payton Hutchinson as they led big down the stretch.
- The ladies move to 6-2 on the year thanks to a strong home opener sweep over the Blue Raiders.
