Grand Rapids, Mich.. – Men's Basketball began a small home-game stretch with a rematch against the Cougars of Cleary University. Their previous matchup saw Cornerstone lose by five points, the final score in that contest was 79-74. Men's Basketball looked to turn it around in the home version of this WHAC pairing.
The Golden Eagles made it look easy early on in the first half, forcing the Cougars into an early timeout as Cornerstone took a nine-point lead 13-4. The Cougars would have to fight the rest of the half to stay in the game as Cornerstone shot 40.6% from the field in the first half and held an eight-point lead at halftime 41-33. Kayden Bird hit four three pointers in-a-row to push the Golden Eagles well out of reach in the second half. Cornerstone University would complete the rematch win over the Cougars inside of the Mol Arena with a score of 92-75. Men's Basketball moves to 8-12 overall and make it an even 7-7 in WHAC play after the home win. Kayden Bird and Levi Schultz would both end with 100% three pointer percentages in the strong win over the Cougars.

First Half

Just 17 seconds into play, Kayden Bird made the layup with a great pass from Andy Mora. Cornerstone led 2-0.

Levi Schultz put up two three pointers in a row for the Golden Eagles to get them ahead by four points 8-4.

As Cornerstone hit a nine-point lead, thanks to a layup by Mark DeVries, Cleary took their first timeout of the half. The Golden Eagles were on top 13-4.

Another three pointer for Cornerstone, this time from Andy Mora, saw its way through the bucket as Cornerstone kept it going for a 10-point lead 16-6.

The third three pointer of the game for Levi Schultz kept the offense alive for the Golden Eagles, who were up 21-6 with about 13 minutes left to go in the first half.

Two good free throws by Joel Nichols made it a nine-point game between the two sides. Cornerstone remained in the lead 25-16 with under 10 minutes to go.

Double-digit points for Levi Schultz with over six minutes to go in the first half as he knocks down another two points. Cornerstone was still up 32-25.

Five more points to his already impressive total, Levi Schultz hit another three pointer and layup to keep the Golden Eagles up by nine points 37-28.

Andy Mora got the steal and took it down to court to add two more points to the Cornerstone total before the end of the first half. The Golden Eagles held the lead 41-33 over the Cougars as they walked into the locker room.

Second Half

The second half started quiet for the Golden Eagles, only putting up five points in the first four minutes of play. They still maintained their lead 46-40 thanks to a three pointer from Levi Schultz and a layup by Andy Mora.

The Cougars brought it within three points of the Golden Eagles before another good three pointer by Levi Schultz found its way down the basket to bring the Cornerstone lead back to six points 46-40.

A good layup from Joel Nichols made it an 11-point game with just under 12 minutes to play in the game. The Golden Eagles maintained their lead 57-46.

The next four three pointer attempts from Kayden Bird all saw their way through the bucket as Bird added 12 points to the board from beyond the arch. Cornerstone had built their lead to 15 points with four minutes to go 78-63.

Andy Mora hit a contested three to the enjoyment of the fans in the Mol Arena to make it 85-67 Cornerstone.

Two more layups by Joel Nichols completed the rematch win over the Cougars as the final buzzer sounded. The Golden Eagles took down Cleary 92-75.
By the Numbers
25/8 – Going 5-5 from beyond the arch, Levi Schultz put up 25 points against the Cougars and grabbed 8 rebounds in the contest.
24/100% – Kayden Bird looked to be back to his three-pointer-shooting ways as he went 6-6 from the three point line and put up 24 points in total!
17/13– A double-double for the team player himself, Andy Mora. He assisted his teammates 13 times and also added 17 of his own points to the scoreboard.
