Albion Hills, Mich. – Men's Soccer drops their second Division III matchup of the week losing to Albion College 4-1.
Steven Stidham scored the lone goal for Cornerstone with Issac Kwantes and
Justin Hirwa recording a shot each, while
Luke Philo made nine saves. Men's Soccer will be back in action on Saturday, October 10th as they face Defiance with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 1 Albion – 4
First Half:
- The match opened with a shot by Albion in the first minute which was saved by Luke Philo.
- In the 11th minute, the Britons got on the board first with a shot into the top right of the goal to take a 1-0 lead over Cornerstone.
- Albion fired another shot on goal late in the 12th minute but was blocked by a CU defender.
- Luke Philo made another save in the 17th minute to keep Cornerstone within one.
- The Britons continued to test Luke Philo in goal as he made another save on a shot high left as the Golden Eagles stayed within one.
- In the 21st minute Albion took a 2-0 lead on an own goal by CU.
- Steven Stidham brought Cornerstone within one as he fired a shot low which got past the keeper for his second goal of the season.
- Albion sent two more shots towards the goal, missing high on both attempts as the match stayed tied at one going into halftime.
Second Half:
- The second half started with Albion scoring 14 seconds into the half to take a 3-1 lead.
- Cornerstone responded with a shot by Isaac Kwantes that rang off the crossbar as you CU stayed down by two.
- Luke Philo continued his busy day with two more saves in the 51st and 52nd minute to keep the Golden Eagles within two.
- Justin Hirwa fired a shot towards the goal but missed right as CU continued to trail by two.
- In the 65th minute Luke Philo made another save on a shot low to keep CU close with 25 minutes left to play.
- The Britons fired two straight shots in the 80th and 81st minute with Luke Philo making back-to-back saves to keep CU in it.
- Albion scored their fourth goal of the day in the 88th minute as Cornerstone went down by three with less than two minutes left to play.
- Luke Philo made one last save in the 89th minute to keep it 4-1 in favor of Albion as that would close out the game with CU taking the loss.
