Cornerstone University Athletics

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Volleyball defeated UNOH in four sets inside the Mol Arena on Saturday, October 24th. Gwyn VerBerkmoes led Cornerstone with 18 kills while Aubrey Johnson collected 14 kills, 17 digs and four blocks. Gianna Warwick led on the defensive side totaling 25 digs while also having three service aces. The Golden Eagle offense ran through Paytin Hutchinson as she collected 47 assists along with 15 digs. The Golden Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, October 28th as they travel to Southfield, Mich. to face Lawrence Tech with the match set to begin at 7 p.m.

Game Recap – #21 Cornerstone – 3 UNOH – 1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16) 


First Set: Cornerstone – 25 UNOH – 15

• The match began with Cornerstone taking a 5-2 lead with two kills by Gwyn VerBerkmoes and a service ace by Aubrey Johnson.
• UNOH battled back to take a lead but kills by Aubrey Johnson and Gabby VerBerkmoes tied the set at eight.
• Cornerstone then went on a ten-point run highlighted by two service aces by Gianna Warwick and five kills by Gwyn VerBerkmoes.
• The Golden Eagles secured a first set win with another kill by Gwyn VerBerkmoes and a service ace by Josilyn Potter.

Second Set: Cornerstone – 23 UNOH – 25

• The second set started with UNOH taking a 6-3 lead as Cornerstone had kills from Anastacia Trevino and Gwyn VerBerkmoes.
• Cornerstone battled back within one with two kills by Gwyn VerBerkmoes along with one kill each by Gabby VerBerkmoes and Josilyn Potter.
• Dyllan Hanna recorded three kills for Cornerstone as they continued to trail the Racers 17-15 in the second set.
• The Golden Eagles took the lead off three straight kills by Josilyn Potter as CU lead UNOH 21-20.
• The Racers then went on a five and one run to take set two from Cornerstone 25-23.

Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 UNOH – 15

• The third set saw Cornerstone take a quick 5-0 lead with two kills by Aubrey Johnson and Josilyn Potter.
• Cornerstone continued to grow their lead with back-to-back blocks by Gabby VerBerkmoes and Aubrey Johnson which made it 13-4.
• A kill by Kaelyn Sohre and a service from Gianna Warwick put Cornerstone up by 11 as they held a 20-9 lead over the Racers.
• Ava Ford and Aubrey Johnson secured a third set victory for CU as Ford collected a service with Johnson adding another kill to end the set at 25-15.

Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 25 UNOH – 16

• The Golden Eagles got out to a 6-2 lead in set number four with two kills from Gwyn VerBerkmoes along with one by Payton Hutchinson.
• Cornerstone grew their lead to seven on two kills by Aubrey Johnson.
• Gwyn VerBerkmoes continued to apply the pressure picking up two more kills to put Cornerstone ahead 18-12.
• Aubrey Johnson gave Cornerstone a win in set number four adding two more kills on the day as the Golden Eagles defeated the Racers three sets to one.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, October 28th as they travel to Southfield, Mich. to face Lawrence Tech with the match set to begin at 7 p.m.
