Mount Vernon, Ohio – Men's Volleyball drops the second game of the road trip in four sets to Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Matthew True led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills and ten digs while also recording three service aces.
Ethan Walker led CU with five blocks, but errors were the story of the night as Cornerstone totaled 35 errors in four sets. Men's Volleyball ends their road trip against #RV Lourdes on Saturday, February 14th at 2 p.m. in Sylvania, Ohio.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 1 Mount Vernon Nazarene – 3 (21-25, 25-20, 19-25, 16-25)
First Set: Cornerstone – 21 Mount Vernon Nazarene – 25
- The match began with CU getting out to a 5-3 lead with two kills from Matthew True a block by JeQuarri Shannon and Kyle Kuebler.
- MVNU fought back and took the lead but back-to-back kills from Andrew Galanes and Ryder Roberts tied the set at nine.
- Cornerstone took a two-point lead off three straight points from kills by Andrew Galanes and JeQuarri Shannon paired with a block from a block by Galanes and Shannon.
- The Cougars went on a four-point run taking a 22-19 lead over CU.
- Cornerstone couldn't capitalize on two errors by the Cougars and drop the first set 25-21.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Mount Vernon Nazarene– 20
- The second set started off with CU taking a 6-2 lead off three attack errors by MVNU and a block by Ethan Walker and Matthew True.
- The Cougars battled back into the set, but the Golden Eagles maintained a two-point lead off a service ace by Andrew Galanes.
- Cornerstone extended their lead to five as Matthew True scored three straight points with a kill and back-to-back service aces.
- Mount Vernon got back within three, but Cornerstone scored two straight points before Ryder Roberts closed out the set with a kill to give CU a 25-20 set two win.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 19 Mount Vernon Nazarene – 25
- The third set began with Mount Vernon going on an 8-0 run before a service error gave CU their first point of the set.
- Cornerstone got three points in a row highlighted by an ace from Matthew True making it a 13-7 set in favor of MVNU.
- CU went on another three-point run courtesy of three errors by the Cougars to stay within six.
- The Golden Eagles continued to fight as another error by MVNU and a block by JeQuarri Shannon and Andrew Galanes made it a 22-17 game.
- MVNU took the third set and a 2-1 set lead over CU.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 25 Mount Vernon Nazarene – 22
- Set four saw MVNU get out to an 8-5 lead despite multiple kills from Matthew True.
- The Cougars extended their lead to 13-8 after going on a four-point run that was ended by a Matthew True Kill.
- JeQuarri Shannon got a pair of kills followed by kills from Andrew Galanes and Patrick Burke brought CU within six.
- Back-to-back points sealed the win for the Cougars defeating CU 25-16 in the fourth set.
