Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Volleyball takes down #7 Lawrence Tech in a four-set thriller.
Ethan Walker recorded nine kills and led the Golden Eagles with eight total blocks.
Matthew True led CU with 13 kills and
Andrew Galanes had five service aces paired combined with nine kills and 18 assists. Cornerstone is back in action on Friday, February 6th as they take on Rochester Christian at 7 p.m. inside Mol Arena.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 3 #7 Lawrence Tech – 1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22)
First Set: Cornerstone – 22 Lawrence Tech – 25
- The match began with Cornerstone taking a 6-3 lead with service aces from Andrew Galanes and Kyle Hortness.
- Lawrence Tech fought back to take a 10-9 lead off four errors by the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone fought back to get within one as JeQuarri Shannon, Matthew True and Andrew Galanes combined for a triple block to make it 15-14 in favor of LTU.
- The Golden Eagles stayed within one with two errors by the Blue Devils.
- LTU went to take the first set on back-to-back kills.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Lawrence Tech– 15
- The second set started with CU getting out to an 8-4 lead with back-to-back aces by Kyle Hortness.
- Cornerstone then went on a 9-1 run highlighted by three kills from Andrew Galanes to give the Golden Eagles a 17-6 lead.
- Lawrence Tech started to crawl back going on a 4-0 run to make it a 21-12 game.
- CU took the second set 25-19 with Andrew Galanes closing out the set with a kill.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Lawrence Tech – 20
- The third set began with Cornerstone going on a 5-0 run to take a 6-2 lead over the Blue Devils.
- The Golden Eagles proceeded to go on another 5-0 run highlighted by two service aces by Mitchell Carrera extending their lead to 10-4.
- A solo block by JeQuarri Shannon paired with a kill and an ace from Andrew Galanes gave the Golden Eagles five-point lead.
- Matthew True connected on back-to-back kills extending CU's lead making it a 21-18 game in favor of Cornerstone.
- Cornerstone took set three off a service error by LTU to take a 2-1 set lead.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 25 Lawrence Tech – 22
- Set four started off as a back-and-forth battle with two blocks by CU tying the set at five.
- Cornerstone took a one-point lead on two straight errors by the Blue Devils.
- The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 19-17 with an ace by Matthew True and two errors on LTU.
- The fourth set continued to be a back-and-forth battle with game tied at 22.
- CU went on a 3-0 run to take a 3-1 set victory on a block by Ethan Walker and Kyle Kuebler taking down #7 LTU.
