GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After 19 total seasons with the program, Head Men's Soccer Coach Steve Herdsman has announced that his chapter at Cornerstone has come to a close.

Coach Herdsman began his tenure with the program as a player where he was the WHAC Player of the Year and NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in 2000 which led him to be drafted 17th overall by the Colorado Rapids in the 2001 MLS Draft. After 51 games played and over 3,000 minutes in the MLS, Steve returned to Cornerstone as an assistant coach for nine seasons before he was then promoted to head coach. 

After serving ten seasons as the head coach, Herdsman totaled 53 wins while leading the team to the WHAC Conference Tournament seven times (16', 17', 18, 20', 21', 23', 24', 25'). Coach Herdsman oversaw 61 unique student-athletes during his 10 seasons at the helm of the program, including one NAIA All-American Honorable Mention during the 2018 season in David Mutembezi. In his 10 seasons as the head coach of the Men's Soccer program, Steve was named the WHAC Champion of Character Coach in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Through his mentorship, he has helped develop countless young men who leave Cornerstone prepared to impact the world for Christ. Steve will be deeply missed, and we are all better for having known and worked alongside him. Thank you, Steve."
