Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Volleyball hosted one of the conference's top teams in #8 Lourdes where they saw three quick sets favor the visiting team. Cornerstone made a late push in the match but ultimately fell short in the end. The Golden Eagles return to action right away on Saturday, March 21
st for a battle against Mount Vernon Nazarene inside Mol Arena starting at 2:00 p.m.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 0 #8 Lourdes – 3 (15-25, 21-25, 17-25)
First Set: Cornerstone – 15 Lourdes – 25
- Ryder Roberts secured the first kill of the match for the Golden Eagles as we open this heavy weighted WHAC matchup.
- The first set was a back-and-forth battle to begin as it was all tied at 6-6.
- The Gray Wolves began to find a groove in the contest taking five quick points and a 14-8 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone was forced into their first timeout of the game at the 21-13 mark looking to find any grip to close the set.
- Lourdes walked away with a dominant win in set one finishing with a 10-point advantage.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 21 Lourdes – 25
- Matthew True led the squad to start the second set coming away with two massive swings and bringing Cornerstone to 6-4 advantage early.
- The Golden Eagles continued to lead the set this time coming from the middle of the floor as Ethan Walker was picking out his mark to earn another smooth point for the home team.
- Lourdes slowly continued to hang around until a mini run flipped the lead in their favor at 19-18 forcing a Cornerstone timeout.
- Andrew Galanes had a signature slick move off the fake assist to earn a point as Ethan Walker followed it up with a monster block as it was tied at 20-20 in a critical end to set two.
- The attack from the Gray Wolves was too much to handle as they ran away with a 25-21 win to take a 2-0 match lead inside Mol Arena.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 17 Lourdes – 25
- The Golden Eagles started the third set in shambles with a flurry of errors that gave Lourdes a 6-1 advantage and forced coach Bahn to think things over.
- The Gray Wolves dominant play held strong as they extended the lead to 12-2 looking for the sweep.
- JeQuarri Shannon sparked life with a pair of kills for Cornerstone, but they still trailed by a heavy amount nearing the halfway mark of the third set.
- Cornerstone used their second timeout of the set down 21-12 as they needed to go on a stellar run to have any chance to keep the match alive.
- The Golden Eagles could not find the chances needed as Lourdes walked away with a strong sweep over Cornerstone.
