Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Volleyball went to work in their last home matchup of the season celebrating their senior day against WHAC opponent Defiance College. The Golden Eagles were dominant inside Mol Arena taking the clean sweep led by senior
Andrew Galanes who was everywhere on the stat sheet. Cornerstone will head to Lawrence Tech for their next matchup in WHAC play on Tuesday, March 31
st at 7:00 p.m.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 3 Defiance – 0 (24-26, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22, 6-15)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Indiana Tech – 15
- The match started well for the Golden Eagles as they took a quick 9-6 lead thanks to multiple kills from JeQuarri Shannon and Matthew True.
- Seniors Andrew Galanes and Ethan Walker got in on the act with a pair of kills to keep pushing the Golden Eagles closer to the first set win.
- The attack errors piled up for the visiting Yellow Jackets late in the set which forced the first timeout of the set as Cornerstone held a 23-15.
- Andrew Galanes and Braeden Schripsema combined for a towering block to secure the final point and give Cornerstone the 1-0 match advantage.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Indiana Tech – 15
- The second set started much better for the Yellow Jackets as they kept it level early with both teams tied at 4-4.
- Matthew True led the Golden Eagles into a six-point run serving well and collecting a service ace in that span with Cornerstone now holding a 14-7 lead.
- Andrew Galanes continued to make his name known as he led the Golden Eagles tossing a pair of assists and kills to secure the second set victory and inch closer to the sweep.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Indiana Tech – 14
- The third set belonged the Golden Eagles early with Ethan Walker finding two kills to help assist Cornerstone into a 5-1 lead.
- Defiance was forced to think things over as they struggled to find any answers down 9-3.
- Matthew True gathered another kill and ace to boost Cornerstone into a 15-4 advantage.
- The Yellow Jackets team lost their temper and earned a red card in the middle of this set which told the story as frustration was boiling over.
- The Seniors Andrew Galanes and Ethan Walker put their stamp on the 3-0 sweep collecting a flurry of kills to end the final set and take this game final.
