Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Add One National Champ and 12 All-Americans Into the History Books!

GAINSVILLE, Fla. - The men's and women's track and field teams have spent the last three days at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center. After the competition ended Friday, Cornerstone had already seen one National Champion in the weight throw and nine All-Americans across the many events. Saturday saw the Golden Eagles add three more All-Americans to the team's already large tally.

Thursday action (Day 1)

Women's Pentathlon - Kaitlynn Dix finished 10th place with a final score of 3367 in her senior season.

  • 8.84 in the 60m hurdles

  • 1.47m in the High Jump

  • 9.92m in the Shot Put

  • 5.24m in Long Jump

  • 2:30.67 in the 800m

Women's 4x800 Prelims

Women's Pole Vault Prelims - Cecily Fager finished at 3.65m (finished 13th)

Men's High Jump Prelims - Bradley Richards finished at 1.99m (Finished T-11th)

Men's 4x800 Prelims

  • The quartet of Chase Holwerda, Elijah Wallace, Sullivan Zietlow, and Parker Matheny completed the preliminary race with a time of 7:38.19. This set a new school record and qualified the group to run in the final race on Friday. (Finished 3rd of 21 teams)

Friday Action (Day 2)

Men's Heptathlon - Liam McHugh finished 7th place with a final score of 5082 to earn the title of All-American!

  • 7.31 in the 60m Dash

  • 6.80m in the Long Jump

  • 1.94m in the High Jump

  • 8.32 in the 60m Hurdles

  • 11.40m in the Shot Put

  • 3.85m in Pole Vault

  • 2:52.28 in the 1000m

Women's Mile Prelim - Jacie Remtema ran a 4:57.51 and advanced with the third seed into the finals on Saturday.

Women's 20lb WT Final - All American

  • Claire Meacham completed her weight throw competition with a mark of 17.92m. This mark is now the 1st in program history along with handing Meacham the 4th spot out of 20 competitors. She is the first Golden Eagle to achieve All-American honors, along with being the first Women's Weight Throw All-American in program history!

Women's 600m Prelim - Hallie Kooyer ran a 1:35.82 but did not advance.

Women's 60m Dash Prelim - Kendra Postema ran a 7.78 but did not advance past the preliminaries.

Men's 35lb WT Final - National Champion and Runner-Up

  • After missing out on the indoor finals of the weight throw last year, Stuart Zachariah Stovall returned and marked at 21.09m to win the National title in the Weight Throw with this school and facility record! (All-American, 1st of 30 athletes).

  • Ryan Shinabery placed second (All-American) (his best was 19.40m).

  • Alexander Pranger placed 28th (Best was 15.99m).

Women's 800m Prelim - Freshman Emma Steele ran a 2:14.73 but came up just shy of qualifying for the finals on Saturday as she placed 9th.

Men's 800m Prelim - Parker Matheny ran a 1:52.36 which placed him 3rd of the preliminaries to send him to the finals on Saturday.

Men's 4x800m Final - All-American


Saturday Action (Day 3)

Women's Mile Final - All-American

  • Jacie Remtema broke her third school record of the weekend with a mile time of 4:52.72. This time placed her 5th of 10 runners to earn her title as an All-American!

Men's Pole Vault Final - All-American

  • Isaac Bowden broke into the top five with a vault of 4.85m to tie three-ways in third place as he earned his All-American title. His vault was the highest Male pole vault finisher in program history (Best 4.85m, finished T-3rd).

Men's 800m Final - All-American

  • Parker Matheny finished his race just about three seconds behind first place in the Men's 800m final. He finished with a time of 1:53.67 and earned All-American honors. (Time 1:53.67, finished 7th).

Women's 3000m Final - Emma Moore completed the 3k with a time of 10:23.77. (Finished 16th of 20).

 

After the three days of competition, the Cornerstone men ended in 7th place with 29 total points, which set a new program record for place and points! The Golden Eagles women finished in 34th place with a total of nine points. Cornerstone would return home with 12 All-American finishes, 11 individual All-American Athletes and one National Champion!
