Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Soccer defeated Goshen College on the road to begin the 2026 season 2-0.
Gracie Gortmaker led the Golden Eagles with two goals, while
Jada VanNoord,
Madelyn Teffner and
Maddie Mater each scored one goal.
Corinne McGlassion earns her second shutout of the year with two saves on the day. Women's Soccer returns home on Saturday, August 29th as they host the University if Saint Francis (Ind.) with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 4 Goshen – 0
First Half:
- The match opened with a shot by Addison Pell that was saved by the Goshen keeper.
- Late on the third minute, Cornerstone got on the board as Gracie Gortmaker scored her first goal of the season giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
- Gracie Gortmaker followed up her goal with two more shots before Maddie Mater sending a shot that was saved in the 16th minute.
- In the 18th minute Gracie Gortmaker found the back of the net again to extend Cornerstone's to two.
- Brooke Harmsen sent two shots at the net in the 22nd minute that were both saved by the Maple Leafs keeper as the Golden Eagles continued to put pressure on the Goshen defense.
- Jada VanNoord fired back-to-back shots in the 26th minute and was unable to find the back of the goal.
- Cornerstone grew their lead early in the 30th minute as Madelyn Teffner buried her third goal of the season.
- The Golden Eagles fired off four shots in a minute's time coming from Toria Beaute, Brooke Harmsen, Madelyn Teffner and Gracie Gortmaker all unable to find the net.
- Samantha Beller closed out the first half with her second goal of the season and gave Cornerstone a 4-0 lead going into halftime.
Second Half:
- The second half started with two shots by Madelyn Teffner with one saved by the keeper and the other blocked to keep it 4-0.
- Maddie Mater and Brooke Harmsen sent shots towards the net, seeing one blocked and the other saved by the Maple Leafs keeper.
- In the 58th minute Jada VanNoord fired a shot into the back of the goal to give Cornerstone a 5-0 lead.
- Jada VanNoord and Ella Meyering sent shots at the net but were both unable to find the back of the goal as the score remained 5-0.
- In the 80th minute, Joslyn McGlassion fired a shot on goal that was saved by the Goshen keeper to keep it a 5-0 game.
- A corner kick by CU would close out the game as they secured a 5-0 win over the Maple Leafs.
