Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Soccer defeated Saint Francis (Ind.) 3-1.
Gracie Gortmaker had a goal and one assist while
Addison Pell and
Madelyn Teffner also found the back of the goal. Women's Soccer is back in action as they travel to Holland, Mich. to face Hope College on Tuesday, September 1st with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Saint Francis (Ind.) – 1
First Half:
- The match opened with a shot by Gracie Gortmaker that went wide right.
- Late in the ninth minute, the Golden Eagles opened the scoring with a goal by Madelyn Teffner, her fourth of the season which gave CU a 1-0 lead.
- Gracie Gortmaker fired two more shots in the 15th minute one high and the other saved by the Cougars keeper.
- Addison Pell added shot in the 21st minute but couldn't get by the Saint Francis keeper to keep the score 1-0.
- Saint Francis tied the game in the 31st minute which was followed by a great shot from Gracie Gortmaker that found the back of the bet and gave Cornerstone a 2-1 lead.
- The Golden Eagles closed out the first half with shots by Sydney Elders and Addison Pell both wide of the goal to send the game into halftime with CU up 2-1.
Second Half:
- The second half started with two shots from Jada VanNoord with one being wide right and the other blocked.
- In the 62nd minute Cornerstone extended their lead to 3-1 as Addison Pell scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Gracie Gortmaker.
- Brooke Harmsen and Madeline Billings fire shots at the goal with Harmsen's going wide left and Billings's saved by the Cougar keeper.
- Madeline Billings continued to be a spark on offense as fired two straight shots one saved by the goalkeeper and the other just hitting off the left post to keep it 3-1 in favor of CU.
- The second half closed with another shot by Madeline Billings once again saved by the keeper and a corner kick by the Cougars would end the half and the game as Cornerstone went on to win 3-1.
