A Draw in Illinois for Women’s Soccer

Elgin, Ill. – The Golden Eagles hit the road for a match against the other eagles of the midwest in Judson University. It was a relatively evenly matched affair with Cornerstone and Judson matching each other step-for-step in both the offensive and defensive departments. Early chances in the first half from Madeline Billings forced saves from the Judson goalkeeper, but kept the score tied at halftime 0-0. The second half was quiet for both teams as they both held firm in the back. Corinne McGlassion tallied a clean sheet that helped Cornerstone to the final result 0-0 with her three saves on the books. The Golden Eagles open up WHAC play against the Crusaders of Madonna University at home on the 18th of September. The match will take place inside of the CU Soccer Stadium at 2 p.m.

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Judson – 0

First Half:

  • The first half began with two shots from the Eagles, one missed by Corinne McGlassion made a save to deny a goal early.

  • Madeline Billings' shot forced a save from the Judson keeper in the 8th minute of play.

  • The 11th minute of play saw Jada VanNoord's shot denied by the goalkeeper, as the game remained tied 0-0.

  • Two shots from Brooke Harmsen were let fly in the 20th minute, one blocked by a Judson defender as the match remained level.

  • One final opportunity in the first half off of a corner kick by Addie Stampfler saw its way to the foot of Brooke Harmsen, but her effort went wide as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Second Half:

  • Another early attempt by the Eagles of Judson was saved by Corinne McGlassion in the 53rd minute of the match.

  • The second half remained quiet from both teams' offenses until a shot from Aubrey Johnson in the 80th minute was saved yet again by the Judson goalkeeper as time began to wind down.

  • Mady Teffner sent a shot wide in the 86th minute of play, as the scoreboard reflected the 0-0 scoreline still.

  • Brooke Harmsen stepped up to take the corner kick in the 87th minute and sent the ball into the box. Jaideyn Koster got on the end of it but pulled her shot wide.

  • The final score was level 0-0 as the referee blew the final whistle to end the match.


By The Numbers

3/1 – Brooke Harmsen once again led Cornerstone in the offense with 3 total shots and one shot on goal against Judson University.

3 – Corinne McGlassion kept a clean sheet in the non-conference match as she made three saves on the day that kept the score level.

1 – Audrey Johnson, Madeline Billings, and Jada VanNoord all had one shot on goal each.
