LIMA, Ohio – Freshman Kyle Steigenga (FR/Holland, Mich.) led all scorers with 21 points but it was not enough to help the No. 11 ranked Golden Eagles overcome a 6-point halftime deficit as they fell 66-68 to Northwestern Ohio. The loss is the first of the year for Cornerstone in league play as they fall to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the WHAC. CU will look to rebound on Tuesday when they travel to Siena Heights for an 8 p.m. matchup with the Saints.
Game Flow
The first half saw six lead changes but it was the last one that saw the host Racers score eight of the final ten points to take a 37-31 lead into the break. CU held its largest lead at 19-14 on a jumper from sophomore Eric Readman (SO/Fenton, Mich.).
Cornerstone quickly erased the lead in the second half as the Golden Eagles scored eight of the first 10 to tie up the score at 39 on a 3-pointer from Michael McLaughlin (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.). UNOH regained the lead on the next possession and it wasn't until a Kyle Steigenga jumper with 5:48 that gave CU their first lead over the closing 20 minutes. The Racers took the lead right back just 18 seconds later and they never relinquished it winning by two.
