GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In another tight battle between the two Beltline rivals, No. 14 Cornerstone held serve on their home court as they posted an 87-80 upset of No. 3 Davenport on Saturday afternoon at Mol Arena. The Golden Eagles, who handed the Panthers their first WHAC loss of the season, improve to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in league play. CU will have a week off before returning to action against Concordia University in Ann Arbor next Saturday.

Game Flow
Early on it looked as if the No. 3 Panthers would have their way as they jumped out to a 15-8 lead on a steal and dunk forcing CU into a timeout. The Golden Eagles stayed composed though in front of a large crowd and slowly chipped away and then took full control with a late first-half surge to lead 37-29 at the break.

The lead grew to as many as 13 in the first five minutes of the second but the Panthers (9-2, 5-1) made a charge to get within one at 65-64. The Eagles, who struggled from the field down the stretch, as evident by only two made field goals in the final 8:04, got their points at the foul line and CU hit their final 14 from the charity stripe to post the win.
