No. 9 Men’s Hoops rolls in 94-67 win over No. 17 UNOH

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – UNOH raced out to a 6-0 lead early in the game but Cornerstone responded and reclaimed the lead just 2:45 into the first half and kept the lead for the remainder of the game.  Cornerstone shot 50% from the field and 52.6% from long range in the game and defeated Northwestern Ohio 94-67.  Cornerstone moves into a tie for second place with Northwestern Ohio with a record of 13-3 in the WHAC.  The Golden Eagles will travel to Ft. Wayne to take on the Warriors of Indiana Tech on Wednesday.



Game Flow

The Racers jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead to start the game but the Golden Eagles responded immediately with an 11-0 run to take an 11-6 lead with 16:55 on the clock.  Kyle Steigenga made a 2-pointer at 13:07 to push the Cornerstone lead to 10 (22-12) but the Racers made a quick 2-point and then a 3-point basket to cut the lead to 22-17 with 12:25.  The Golden Eagles would make an 18-4 run over the next six minutes to take a commanding 40-21 lead with 6:16 left in the half.  Cornerstone went a little cold to finish the half scoring only 8 points over the last 6:16 of the half.  The Racers made an 18-8 run during that time to cut the lead to 48-37 at the half.  Kyle Steigenga led the Golden Eagles with 16 points and Ben Lanning scored 10 points in the first half.

Northwestern Ohio cut the lead to single digits (48-39) on the first bucket of the second half but the Golden Eagles responded with an 8-2 run to go up 56-41 with 16:50 remaining.  The Racers would get it back to a single digit lead just one more time (60-52) with 11:31 on the clock.  Cornerstone extended the lead to 20 points (80-60) on a Travis Wells free throw and they just coasted home winning by 27 (94-67).  Kyle Steigenga and Cory Cox led the Golden Eagles with 26 and 17 points respectively.

The Golden Eagles will travel down to Ft. Wayne to take on Indiana Tech on Wednesday, Feb. 4th at 7:30 p.m.  Cornerstone defeated the Warriors 82-61 back on Jan. 7th.
