Baseball falls in doubleheader at Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – In a makeup doubleheader at Madonna, it was the host Crusaders who walked off in game one in the tenth inning and then won 11-3 in the nightcap. The pair of losses drop the Golden Eagles to 3-2 on the season as they will conclude the fall portion of their season on Friday and Saturday at Concordia.

Game 1 – It was an offensive showdown in the opening game as Madonna jumped out to a 5-0 lead in their half of the first inning. CU stormed back with eight runs in the top of the second and all eight runs came with two outs. Joe Corsten started it with an RBI single and it was followed by a 2-RBI triple from Jon Stewart and RBI singles from Brad Eeles, Aaron Krupansky, Jarod Burton and Brady Volmering.

The Crusaders jumped right back into the game with three runs in their half of the second only to see CU get all three of those back in the next two frames to build an 11-8 lead. Madonna did not stop fighting back as they scored two in the sixth and one in the eighth to send it to extra innings where they got a bases-loaded single in the tenth to walk it off.

Game 2 – Madonna again jumped all over the CU starting pitching as they brought across five runs in the first and four more in the second after CU went ahead with two in the top of the first inning. CU got their runs from a pair of RBI singles from Burton and Volmering.

The remainder of the game was more defense than offense as MU put up two more in the fourth while CU got one in the eighth on a Burton sac fly.
