ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Cornerstone entered the day looking to avenge a late inning setback to the host Cardinals of Concordia but a 7-2 loss in the opener was followed by a 3-2 extra-innings loss in the nightcap sent CU to a pair of defeats. Cornerstone falls to 3-5 on the year as they complete fall-ball and will now enter the winter months before resuming the regular season in February.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Cornerstone again got off to a nice start on offense as
Joe Corsten got the Golden Eagles on the board in the second on an RBI fielder's choice that scored
Brady Volmering. Concordia then scored in each of the next two innings to take a 2-1 lead but CU answered back in the fifth on a
Jonny Abbadusky single, scoring Brady Eeeles.
That would be the final tally for CU however as the Cardinals scored the final five runs of the game to open the day with a 7-2 win.
Game 2 – It was a pitching duel between Cornerstone's
Collin Young and Concordia's Jimmy McKane as Young went eight innings while allowing just three hits and one run and McKane went seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs.
Leading 2-1 entering the ninth inning with
Seth Reigner picking up a 2-RBI single in the seventh, CU was unable to hold on to the lead and Concordia tied it up with nobody out. CU did get out of the jam but the Cardinals eventually walked off in the 10
