SPRINGDALE, Ark. – The Golden Eagles opened the spring season on a windy day in Springdale, Arkansas and earned a split with Ecclesia College, falling 8-3 in game one and winning 10-6 in game two. The split puts CU at 4-6 on the year, as they will conclude a four game set with a double-header tomorrow starting at 2 p.m. EST.
Game Flow
Game 1 – The Golden Eagles got off to a great start in game one, getting on the board first with a two run single by
Jon Stewart that scored
Evan Wagner and
Brady Eeles. Ecclesia responded immediately though, with five runs in the next two innings, including back-to-back HR's to take a 5-2 lead.
Brady Volmering hit a homerun of his own to cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fourth, but Ecclesia added three more runs in the final two innings to earn an 8-3 win over CU.
Game 2 – In game two, starter
Noah Reed was dealing early, allowing just one hit and one run through the first five innings. The Golden Eagle offense helped out Reed as well, scoring six runs in the first six innings highlighted by
Joe Corsten and
Jarod Burton homeruns.
Reed found himself in some trouble in the bottom of the sixth inning, as he walked three and gave up a three run homerun that tied the game at six. The CU offense responded though in the seventh, as
Levi Martin doubled to lead off and
Brady Volmering hit him home to take a 7-6 lead. Cornerstone then added three more runs and
Aaron Krupansky closed the door on the mound to earn a 10-6 win.
