Late goal by Billings pushes Men’s Soccer past Indiana Tech 1-0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Graduate senior Regan Billings kept his hot streak going by scoring his third goal in the past two games to help CU hand Indiana Tech their first loss of the season, 1-0. Cornerstone has ended their home stand with two consecutive conference wins to push them to 7-4-1, 3-1-1 on the year as they will travel to Marygrove on Wednesday for their next match.

Game Flow
The match was physical from start to finish as the first half saw multiple free kick opportunities for both teams that were unable to be put away, resulting in a 0-0 halftime score. Both teams got two shots on goal in the first half, with the best chance for CU coming off a Kyle Doornbos header that was saved by IIT keeper Adam Viviano.

The second half continued to involve physical play, but Cornerstone was able to connect on some runs and get five quality shots off. Caleb Colp had an excellent opportunity early in the period that went off the crossbar keeping the match scoreless. The tie was finally broken in the 79', when Regan Billings picked up the ball at midfield off a defensive clearance and had a rip from well outside the 18-yard box that sailed over the keeper's head into the back of the net to give CU the final edge 1-0.
