No. 20 Volleyball falls 3-1 to No. 10 Lourdes in WHAC Championship

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The No. 20 ranked Golden Eagles raced out to a 1-0 lead by taking the opening set 25-19 but the No. 10 Gray Wolves came back with three straight wins to defeat Cornerstone in four sets in the WHAC Tournament Championship match. The loss drops CU to 32-8 on the year as they will return to action in the NAIA National Tournament. The pairings will be announced on Monday, November 14.

Match Flow…

Cornerstone controlled the play in the opening set by hitting .297 and holding the powerful LU offense to a measly .122. Madison Herrema led a balanced attack with four kills in the opener as three others chipped in with three each.

Lourdes then came out on fire in the next two sets, building a 6-2 lead in the second and 12-1 lead in the third to take a commanding 2-1 lead in the match. After falling behind 10-5 in the fourth set, Cornerstone called timeout and came out of the break with five straight of their own to tie it at 10. The back and forth action would ensue but the Gray Wolves had too much offense as they closed out the Golden Eagles 25-18 to claim their second straight WHAC Tournament title.
