GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The points came hard to come by in the opening minutes but once the Cornerstone men's basketball team found their rhythm, the shots started to fall and the end result was a 41-point win over visiting Siena Heights. The Golden Eagles got 40 points from their bench as they improve to 19-5 overall and 14-3 in the WHAC. CU will head on the road Saturday to Northwestern Ohio for a 3 p.m. tip.
Game Flow
Cornerstone struggled to score in the opening minutes of the game as they had more fouls (3) than points (2) at the 15:30 mark. Fortunately for them, the defense was solid and limited the Saints to just two points as well at that point. After a Dilon Aten (FR/Dorr, Mich.) triple broke a drought at 15:28, Cornerstone slowly pulled away in the first half and eventually upped their lead to 51-36 at the break.
The defense really buckled down in the second half as the Golden Eagles only allowed two points in the first 7:03 as they outscored the Saints 11-2 to open a 24-point lead (62-38). A majority of the second half was played by the CU reserves as they would accumulate 40 points on the night led by Tyler Smith (JR/Zeeland, Mich.) with nine as every player posted at least four points.
