LIMA, Ohio – Cornerstone has only two trips remaining this season outside of Grand Rapids and they got a victory in one of those today as they defeated Northwestern Ohio 79-63. The win lifts the Golden Eagles to 20-5 on the year and 15-3 in league action. CU will head to Ann Arbor on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against the Cardinals of Concordia.
Game Flow
The first half did not feature pretty shooting on either side of the floor as the Golden Eagles used a nice advantage at the charity stripe to build an 11-point halftime lead. Kyle Steigenga (SO/Holland, Mich.) hit six of eight from the foul line in route to his 10 first half points while Cory Cox (JR/Flushing, Mich.) and Michael McLaughlin (JR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored the final five to put CU up 36-25.
After the Racers cut the margin to eight early in the second half, Kyle Steigenga had back to back 3-point plays and forced UNOH into a timeout with Cornerstone on top 45-31. That margin slowly climbed over the next few minutes and after a Dlion Aten triple, CU built its largest lead to that point at 15. UNOH would not go away however and had the lead down to just eight with 10:48 to play but then a steal and layup from Michael McLaughlin put CU back up 10 and then never looked back, winning by 16.
