Men’s Soccer falls 1-0 at Holy Cross

Story Links

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Golden Eagles played their second match of the season and first road one but the result was the same as the opener as they fell 1-0 to Holy Cross (Ind.) on Wednesday afternoon. The host Saints scored a late first half goal that was the difference as CU will return home on Thursday to host Mount Vernon Nazarene at 4:45 p.m.

Game Flow
Looking to post their first win of the season, Cornerstone got off to a solid start and created multiple chances in the opening 45 minutes of the match. They had one shot just sail high in the 30' and then another just wide in the 41' but the Saints of Holy Cross countered with a scoring chance with just under two minutes to play in the half and converted the goal to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Holy Cross then fell back and played a primarily defensive layout in the second half which did not enable the Golden Eagles to create many opportunities. CU did manage a pair of shots, both on goal, in the closing 45 but the HC keeper made both saves to keep the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard and preserve their season-opening win.
