GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Mount Vernon Nazarene recorded the only two goals of the match in the opening 11 minutes of the second half as the Cougars posted a 2-0 win at Cornerstone on Thursday afternoon. The victory sends the Golden Eagles to an 0-3 record as they will continue play next Wednesday, August 31 when they host Saint Xavier University (Ill.) at 6 p.m.
Game Flow
The first 45 minutes was a defensive battle as Cornerstone fended off six Mount Vernon shots while the Cougars deflected a pair of Cornerstone attempts. CU keeper,
Thomas Bowes, made a pair of saves in the first half to help keep the match scoreless.
Then in the 48', the Cougars broke through with their first goal and they followed with one less than 10 minutes later to double the margin. Head coach
Steve Herdsman was able to get some players their first action of the season including goalkeeper
Tyler Waterway who made some nice saves down the stretch for the Golden Eagles.
