PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Cornerstone volleyball team opened its 2016 campaign with a thrilling 5-set win over Judson before closing the night with a sweep of the host school Trinity Christian. CU, now 2-0 on the season, will head to Saint Xavier on Saturday to take on Saint Francis (Ill.) at 10 a.m. EST and finish the TCC/SXU Crossover with a 4 p.m. match against Bethel (Ind.).
Match 1 - Cornerstone 3, Judson 2 – 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 17-15
Cornerstone cruised through the first two sets after a sluggish start in the opener and looked poised to close out the Judson Eagles in three but a late rally by JU gave them a 25-23 win to force a fourth set.
Judson then held a slim lead for most of the fourth set before seeing Cornerstone come back to tie it at 21-21. JU would then score four of the final five points to force a fifth and deciding set. Judson took full control of the fifth set and led 11-8 before seeing Cornerstone fight back to tie it at 14-14. The Golden Eagles finished off the comeback with a block by

th 17-15.
Match 2 – Cornerstone 3, Trinity Christian 0 – 25-13, 25-23, 25-22
Cornerstone finished off the 2-0 day with a nice road victory at Trinity Christian. The Golden Eagles took a convincing 12-point win in the opening set before jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the second. The Trolls fought back and held a slim lead for much of the set before CU finished by winning four of the final five points for the 25-23 win.
Trinity Christian looked for force a fourth set and again held a small lead for much of the third but a late comeback for CU and a strong finish enabled them to win 25-22 to sweep the match.
