GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – No. 5 Davenport found just enough to get past the Golden Eagles with a 78" minute goal that led to a 2-1 victory for the Panthers. Cornerstone ends a five game winning streak to move to a 5-4-0, 1-1-0 record as they will host Madonna on Friday night for the annual Night of Nets match.
Game Flow
Davenport controlled much of the possession early, which led to a goal in the 10' minute by Jake Love off an assist from the midfielder Brogan Shrimpton to give DU a 1-0 lead. Cornerstone came back with an offensive push of their own in the final 25 minutes of the half, as
Kevin Doornbos capitalized in the 30" minute stealing the ball from a DU defender and scoring to tie the game at 1-1.
The second half was back and fourth as both teams found a few quality chances to take the lead. A Davenport corner was the opportunity that ultimately broke the tie when Cam Cavanagh scored his first goal of the season off a header just inside the six-yard box resulting in a 2-1 final score.
