GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a very defensive minded first half, Cornerstone was able to pull away with 43 points in the second half to earn a 71-60 win over Concordia. The win gives the Golden Eagles a season split with the Cardinals, improving their record to 10-10 on the year and 7-5 in the WHAC. CU will head back on the road for their second matchup with Marygrove College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Game Flow
Both teams got off to a slow start in the first quarter, as Cornerstone went 35.7% (5-14) from the field and Concordia went 38.9% (7-18). CU was able to find their offense in the second quarter going 8-12 from the field to tie the game back up 28-28 at halftime.
Jesse Sheridan led all scorers in the first half, with 10 points going 4-8 from the field.
The offense continued back and fourth in the third quarter until CU found an 8-0 run in the middle of the period that helped them begin to pull away. A 10-0 Golden Eagle run powered by six points by
Taylor Richards really helped CU gain the advantage over the Cardinals, earning their largest lead of the game at 15. Concordia put on a heavy press to cut it to single digits, but it was not enough as CU hit their free throws to earn a 71-60 victory.
By the Numbers
51.9% – After shooting just 35.7% in the first quarter, CU responded to go 51.9% on the game.
18 – CU outrebounded CUAA by 18 for the game bringing down a total of 49 on the game.
14-17 – Cornerstone went 14-17 from the free throw line on the game.

Cass Vredevoogd tallied two blocks of the Golden Eagles four on the game.
